국문 초록

한강의 채식주의자 연작은 발표된 이후로 여러 다양한 반응의 대상이 된다. 특히 이 작품은 맨부커 국제상을수상한 이후 독자의 확대와 함께 해석의 확장으로 이어진다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이 작품의 ‘저자-작품-독자’의 관계에 근거하여 수용성의 측면으로 살핀 연구는 없었다. 이에 본고에서는 채식주의자 의 텍스트적 성격과 담론적발현 양상을 파악한다. 사회적인 담론이 형성되고 그것이 하나의 비평 이론으로 정리되면 이것은 문학을 해석하는 방법으로 사용된다. 이 작품에서 비평 방법은 서사화의 근간으로 작용하며 주요한 서사의 해석으로 작용한다. 채식주의자 는 비평의방식이 해석의 주요한 방법이자 전제로 작용한다는 점에서 ‘작품’이면서 동시에 특정 비평 이론들이 혼합되어 나타나는 ‘텍스트’로 인식된다. 채식주의자 는 서구에서 익숙한 주제와 함께 그들의 지식을 그대로 재현하면서 동질성을 드러내는 서사로 나타난다. 동시에 이 작품은 서구의 입장에서 봤을 때 자신들의 우월성을 확인시켜줄 수 있는 열등한 타자적 면모를함께 드러낸다. 이와 같은 일련의 상황은 서구의 입장에서 쉽게 받아들일 수 있는 부분으로 작용한다.

영문 초록

The series of Vegetarian by the Hangang has been the subject of various reactions since its release. In particular, after winning the Man Booker International Prize, the work has brought an expansion of interpretation along with the expansion of readers. Nevertheless, there has been no study that researched the relationship between the work s author-work-reader in terms of narrative and receptivity. Accordingly, this study figures out the discourse character and textual expression of Vegetarian. When social discourse is formed and it is organized into one critical theory, it is used as a way of interpreting literature. In this work, critical theory acts as the basis of narrative and as the formation of narrative itself. Vegetarian is both a work and a text that blends specific critical theories in that it has been embodied as the way of criticism itself. Vegetarian appears as a narrative that reveals homogeneity while reproducing their knowledge with familiar themes in the West. At the same time, this work also reveals the savage and inferior other side that can confirm their superiority from the Western point of view. This series of situations is a part that can be easily accepted from the Western point of view and an element that can reproduce colonial relations.
