국문 초록

이 글에서 ‘로봇’은 특정한 대상이나 기술을 가리키는 게 아니며, 동시적이고 상호적으로 작용하며 발전하는 자동기계, 인공지능, 네트워크, 기타 관련 기술 등과 이들의 역사적 맥락 및 상호연관까지 통칭하는 용어로 사용된다. 이는 로봇의 특정한 형상 및 기능에 매몰되지 않고 오히려 그 너머를 응시하고, 이를 통해 다시 그러한 로봇을 마주하는 인간을 되돌아보고자 함이다. 이러한 견지에서 볼 때, 로봇에 관한 허구와 상상, 서사의 역사는 현실적 계기들과 상호작용하며 로봇의 이미지는 물론 실제의 로봇까지 변화시켜 왔고, 이러한 변화에 인류의 오랜 무의식과 욕망이 함께 연루되며 부분적으로 지속되고 있음을 보여준다. 오늘날 우리가 주체로서 관통하는 일상과 삶은 스마트폰이나 PC, 그밖에 온갖 자동기계, 게임, SNS는 물론 이와 연관된 광범위한 사회적 규약을 전제한다. 삶과 일상의 이같은 내용은 ‘로봇’에 대해 원시적인 숭배와 유사한것, 즉 강력한 의존이 일상화되어 있음을 말해준다. 광의의 로봇은 인간의 노동, 언어, 취향, 기호, 가치, 정보 등을 공략하면서 주체를 새롭게 주조하고 이 ‘의존’을 강화한다. 이 변화가 반드시 부정적인 것만은 아니겠지만, 그에 관해 진지하며 비판적인 통찰은 절실하며 더욱 적극적으로 이뤄질 필요가 있다. 그러므로 ‘로봇’은 현재 우리의모습을 투명하게 돌아보도록 하는 중대한 거울이자 창임에 틀림없다.

영문 초록

In this article, ‘robot’ does not refer to a specific object or technology, but is used as a collective term for automatic machines, artificial intelligence, networks, the other related technologies that have been developed simultaneously and interactively. So its meaning contains even their historical contexts and interrelationships. This is not order to be immersed in the specific shape and function of the robot, but rather to look beyond them, and to look back at the human-being who faces the robot. From this point of view, the history of fictions, imaginations, and epic about robots has changed the image of robots and even the real robots by interacting with actual momentums. And they shows that humankind s long-standing unconsciousness and desires are involved in these changes and partly continue. The daily life that we live as subjects today necessarily presupposes smart phones, PCs, and other automatic machines, games, SNS, as well as a wide range of related social customs. This characteristic of everyday life suggests that something similar to the primitive cult of ‘robots’, a strong dependence on them, has become commonplace. Robots in the broadest sense reinvent the subject and reinforce this ‘dependence’ by capturing human labor, language, taste, preferences, values, and information. While this change is not necessarily negative, a serious and critical insight about it is desperately needed and needs to be done more aggressively. Therefore, ‘robot’ must be an important mirror and window that allows us to look back in our present state transparently.
