인도 영화에 나타난 젠더 의식

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 여성과 관련된 사회 문제를 다룬 영화에 나타난 젠더 의식을 분석하는 것이다. 연구 대상은2010년 이후 개봉된 핑크 , 아나르깔리 , 불불 그리고 빠글래뜨 이다. 본 연구에서는 이들 네 편의 영화에서 성추행, 조혼, 배우자 선택권과 과부 등을 어떻게 서사하고 있으며, 주인공 여성들은 자신의 존재를어떻게 인식하고 해당 문제에 대응했는지 그리고 그러한 표현들이 인도인들의 젠더 의식에는 어떠한 영향을 미칠수 있는 지를 분석했다. 핑크 와 아나르깔리 는 성추행을 주제로 하고 있지만 그 표현 방식은 다르다. 핑크 에서는 피해를입은 여성 당사자들이 자신의 주장을 주체적으로 전개하지 못하고 남성인 디빠끄를 통해서 여성 문제를 해결하는양상을 띤다. 아나르깔리 에서 주인공인 아나르깔리는 자신이 당한 성추행을 바로 신고하려 했지만, 권력과 결탁한 경찰이 고소를 접수해주지 않았고, 오히려 윤락 혐의를 받고 구속된다. 그러나 결론에서는 다르멘드라의 성추행 사건을 그의 가족들과 동료들이 지켜보는 앞에서 폭로함으로써 여성의 문제를 스스로 해결하는 주체성을 드러냈다. 조혼과 여성 학대를 다룬 불불 과 배우자 선택권이 없는 결혼과 과부의 문제를 다룬 빠글래뜨 에서는고난을 겪는 여성이 자신의 존재 가치를 찾는 여정을 표현했다. 두 영화의 공통점은 여성이 자신의 주체성을 드러낼 때 마녀, 미친 사람으로 치부된다는 사회적 시선이다. 한편으로 불불 에서는 남성들의 억압적 시선을 부각시켰지만 현실적으로 여성 문제 개선이나 젠더 불평등에 대한 사회적 메시지는 빈약하다. 빠글래뜨 에서는 코믹한 행위들로 전통적 굴레를 무시하려는 주인공의 의지가 드러나고, 등장 여성 인물들의 유대감이 표출된다. 이를통해 주인공인 산드야가 당당하게 자신의 새로운 삶을 개척하기 위해 떠나는 모습을 표현함으로써 이 영화가 젠더 의식 변화에 주는 메시지는 긍정적으로 평가될 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to analyze gender consciousness in Bollywood Hindi films based on women-related social issues. This analysis looks at films released since 2010, Pink (2016) , Anaarkali of Aarah (2017) , Bulbbul (2020) , and Pagglait (2021) . We analyzed, in these four films, how sexual harassment, child marriage, spouse options and widows are narrated, and how the main female characters recognize their own existence and respond to social issues, and how such expressions could affect Indian’s gender consciousness. Pink and Anaarkali of Aarah are both based on sexual harassment, but their expressions are different. In Pink , women who are victims of sexual harassment case cannot independently develop their claims and solve the problem with the help of a male lawyer, Deepak. In Anaarkali of Aarah , Anaarkali tries to report the sexual harassment she has suffered by herself. Corrupt police in collusion with power does not accepted the case, and she is rather arrested on suspicion of prostitution. However, in conclusion, she presents her subjecthood in solving problems on her own by exposing Darmendra’s sexual harassment case in front of his family and colleagues. Bulbbul , which deals with child marriage and women abuse, and Pagglait , which deals with marriage without spouse options and widowhood describe the journey of struggling women to find the value of their existence. Both films show the social perspective of treating women who show their subjecthood as witches or madwomen. Bulbbul highlights the oppressive perspective of men, but social messages about improving women’s issues or eliminating gender inequality are rarely found. In Pagglait , the main character s willingness to break away from traditional customs through comic actions and the bond between the female characters is expressed. In the end, Sandya sets out to her way to pioneer her new life, and the message of this film to change gender consciousness can be evaluated positively.
