국문 초록

기술문명의 발달 특히 인공지능 테크놀로지의 발달은 의료 분야에서도 인공지능을 응용한 의료적 실천을 도입하고 있다. 인공지능 의료의 발달은 인간이 오랜 시간 동안 가지고 있던 꿈을 현실화할 수 있다는 가능성을 보여주면서 인간의 신체에 대한 새로운 개념변화를 야기하고 있다. 인간의 신체 변화는 테크놀로지의 발달과 더불어 육체가 가진 한계를 극복하고자 하는 노력으로 나타난다. 오랜 기간 육체 자체를 대체하거나 연장시킬 수 없었던 인간은 도구와 기계를 통해 그 한계를 극복하고자 하였다. 도구와 기계는 그 자체로 인간 신체의 한계를 극복하는 수단이기는 하지만, 신체의 자유, 혹은 신체로부터의 자유를 향한 인간의 욕망은 언제나 더한 것을 원하였다. 그 바람은 인간의 신체를 기계로 대체하는 생물학적 신체와 기계의 결합으로 현실화된다. 이러한 새로운 인간 신체의 가능성은 대략 세 가지로 분류된다. 첫째, 유기체와 기계가 결합된 형태의 사이보그 신체이다. 둘째, 노화를 제거하고 인간의 지적, 육체적, 심리적 능력을 향상키는 기술을 개발하고 확대함으로써 가능해진 트랜스휴먼 신체이다. 셋째, 여기서 더 나아가 더 이상 인간종을 더 이상 대변할 수 없을 정도로 철저히 변화되어 이제는 인간이라 할 수 없는 존재로 정의되는 포스트휴먼 신체이다. 이 논문은 이러한 미래 인간 신체에 대해 논의하고, 이러한 신체들의 가능성이 윌리엄 깁슨 공상과학소설 『뉴로맨서』 안에서 형상화되는 양상을 고찰하였다.

영문 초록

The development of technology, especially the development of artificial intelligence technology, has stimulated the introduction of new medical practices. The development of artificial intelligence in medical care has brought about new changes and conceptions of the human body. The changes in the human body have appeared as efforts to overcome the limitations of the human body with the development of technology. Human beings who could not replace or prolong the life of the body for a long time have tried to overcome their limitations through tools and machines. We always have had a desire for eternal life and immortality, but it have been a hard desire to accomplish. This desire now begins to be realized by the combination of the biological body and the machine that replaces the human body. These new human bodies are roughly divided into three types. The first is the cyborg body in the form of a combination of organisms and machines. The second form is the transhuman body, which will be made possible by developing and expanding technology to eliminate aging and improve human intellectual, physical, and psychological abilities. The third one is the posthuman body, which can no longer be called human because it has been so completely changed that it can no longer represent the human species. This paper discusses the three possible types of future human bodies, and examines how these bodies are envisioned in William Gibson’s SF Neuromancer
