유학생 대상 학습전략 비교과 프로그램 운영의 실제와 방향성 고찰

국문 초록

이 글에서는 K대학에서 실시한 노트필기 전략교육의 사례를 통해 유학생들의 학습적응 비교과 프로그램을 모색했다. 유학생들에게도 효과적인 학습전략이 요구되며 이를 실현하기 위해 노트필기 전략교육이라는 주제로 비교과 프로그램을 운영했다. 본 프로그램은 특히 문과 전공 유학생들에게 각광을 받았으며, 해당 전공 교수들도 적극적으로 프로그램 참여를 독려했다. 노트필기 전략교육을 유학생들의 모국어로 진행함으로써 프로그램의 내용을 명확히 이해시키면서, 나아가 각자 자신의 전공학습과정에서 활용할 수 있도록 학생들의 실습과 적용과정을 점검했다. 이와 같은 과정을 통해 유학생들이 자신만의 필기방법을 습득할 수 있도록 지원하였으며, 성공적인 학업생활을 위해 노트필기의 중요성에 대한 인식을 제고하였다. 일련의 활동을 통해 유학생 대상 비교과활동에서 다음과 같은 두 가지 방향성을 제안할 수 있다. 첫째, 유학생의 학습과 전이활동은 언어를 매개로 이루어지지만, 인지 전략 면에서는 한국어보다 모국어를 활용한 접근이 이해의 깊이를 도모할 수 있다. 둘째, 제2언어 학습자의 학습과정과 결과의 정리과정에서 구사하는 언어는 한국어 외에도 모국어의 효율적인 활용이 이해의 깊이를 더할 수 있다. 예컨대 전공 교과학습과정에서 유학생의 노트필기는 한국어로 이루어지되, 한국어만이 아니라 모국어를 포함한 다양한 이미지로 구성될 수 있다. 해당 지식의 습득과 활용의 측면에서, 표면적인 이해에서 더 나아가 실제 학문 활동과 현장에서 실현하고 활성화시키기 위해서는 모국어를 통한 수용도 요구된다.

영문 초록

In this article, we look at the adaptations of international students after they experienced a note-taking strategies program at K university. Effective learning strategies for second languages are required for international students at major universities; we have run comparisons on some note-taking strategies programs. These programs were particularly well-received by foreign students whose professors actively encouraged their attendance. Courses were taught in the native languages of the students so they could clearly understand the subject matter. The students’ practice and application processes were monitored as they incorporated note-taking into their own learning methods. Through a series of activities, the following two directions can be suggested: First, learning and transfer activities are conducted through language; but in terms of cognitive strategy, an approach using students’ native languages rather than only Korean can deepen understanding. Second, the efficient use of students’ native languages in addition to Korean can enhance the depth of the learning process. For example, in the course of their studies, second-language students’ notes were written in Korean, but also included some descriptions in their native languages. In order to acquire language skills beyond a superficial understanding, and to be successful in actual academic activities and in the field, it is indispensable to receive some of the subject matter in one’s native language.
