국문 초록

지난해에 고시된 2015 개정 영어과 교육과정은 2018년부터 초등학교 3ㆍ4년, 중학교 1학년, 고등학교 1학년에게 순차적으로 적용될 예정이다. 본고에서는 2015 개정 영어과 교육과정의 주요 변화 내용을 현재 적용 중인 2009 개정 영어과 교육과정과 비교해 살펴보고 주요 쟁점 3가지를 다음과 같이 제기하였다. 첫째, 영어과에서 추구하는 핵심역량은 타당하게 선정되지 않았을 뿐만 아니라 교육과정 전반에 충실히 반영되지 않았다. 둘째, ‘내용 체계표’의 구성 요소 및 그 세부 사항은 기능과 수행 중심 교과인 영어과의 특성에 타당하지 않게 제시되어 있었다. 셋째, 영어의 4기능에 기초한 영역 구분은 목표와의 연계성을 확보하지 못하였을 뿐만 아니라 명료성과 연계성을 지니지 못한 성취기준의 개발로 이어져 있었다. 이런 문제점은 학교 영어교육의 주춧돌인 교육과정에 대한 학계의 연구와 논의가 이론적, 실제적 수준에서 이루어져야함을 시사하고 있다.

영문 초록

The 2015 Revised English Curriculum was announced last year. It will be first implemented to 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 10th graders in the year of 2018 and then later to other graders in consecutive order. This study presented major changes made in the 2015 Revised English Curriculum by comparing it with the current 2009 Revised English Curriculum. Then, it raised three issues as follows: First, the key competencies, which was a main principle to guide the revision process of the current curriculum, have not been appropriately selected. They have not been properly reflected throughout the entire curriculum document, either. Next, some components of the newly introduced ‘content framework’ are not appropriate to list the educational contents of English as a subject matter. Consequently, what is presented in each component lacks validity and consistency. Last, the establishment of ‘area’ based on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills has not had connection with the goals of the 205 Revised English Curriculum.. Due to this, achievement standards are not clear enough to deliver what they represent, and thus the connection of an achievement standard to another is vague. These issues suggest that more research on the English curriculum should be conducted theoretically and practically. Wide-ranging discussions also should be made in regard to the English curriculum.
