과학 캠프 활동이 과학 영재의 창의적 인성과 문제해결력에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

이 연구는 과학캠프 참여 경험이 과학영재들의 창의적 인성과 문제해결력에 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 J대학교 부설 과학영재교육원에 소속된 69명의 중등 과학영재들을 대상으로 여름 방학 중 3박 4일간 과학캠프 활동을 실시하였다. 캠프 활동 전후의 사전사후검사를 통해 과학영재들의 창의적 인성을 t-test를 통해 살펴보았다. 사전 사후 검사에는 5점 Likert 척도 문항을 적용하였다. 창의적 인성 검사를 분석한 결과 사전 검사 평균 3.88점, 사후 검사 평균 3.97점으로 사후검사 평균이 사전검사보다 높게 나타났다. 사전 검사에서는 창의적 인성의 하위 요소 중 자신감이 가장 높게 나타났다. 사후검사에서는 독립성이 가장 높았다. 사전 검사와 사후 검사간 차이를 알아보기 위해 t-test를 실시하였다. 창의적 인성의 하위 요소별 t-test를 실시한 결과 자신감, 인내/끈기, 상상력, 독립심, 모험심, 개방성, 유머감은 사후검사가 유의미하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 과학영재들의, 전공영역과 성별에 따른 t-test 분석에서는 유의미한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 호기심을 제외한 창의적 인성의 전 영역에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 나타난 것은 과학캠프 활동이 과학영재들의 창의적 인성 함양에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤음을 보여주는 것이다. 문제해결력 사전검사 평균 2.12점, 사후검사평균 2.00점이었고, t-test 결과 유의미한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 과학영재들을 대상으로 한 과학캠프활동에 대한 인식 조사에서는 캠프 활동에 대한 긍정 응답이 매우 높게 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 과학영재 프로그램 개발 과정에서 캠프 활동 등의 다양한 교육 경험을 확대할 필요가 있음을 보여주는 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of science camp activities on the creative personality and problem solving ability of scientifically gifted students. A science camp was operated with the participation of 69 scientifically gifted students for four days and three nights at the Science Gifted Education Center affiliated with J University. A pretest and a posttest were conducted regarding their creative personality before and after the camp activities, and any differences between the results of the two tests were analyzed. A five-point Likert scale was applied to the pretest and posttest questionnaires. The mean creative personality score was 3.88 points in the pretest and 3.97 points in the posttest, showing a higher score in the posttest. In the pretest, self-confidence recorded the highest score among the subelements of creative personality. In the posttest, independence marked the highest score. The t-test was performed to examine differences between the pretest and posttest results, and showed statistically significant differences in self-confidence, patience/persistence, imagination, independence, adventurous spirit, openness, and sense of humor. An analysis according to the science-gifted students’ major fields of study and gender exhibited no statistically significant differences between the pre-test and post-test. The statistically significant difference shown in every subelement of creative personality except curiosity suggests that the experience of science camp activities has positive effects on the cultivation of creative personality in scientifically gifted students. In the problem solving ability test, the pretest average was 2.12 and the post test was 2.00. In the result of t-test, there was no significant difference between pre-test and post-test. In the perception survey on science camp activities, scientifically gifted students respond positively to science camp activities. These results suggest the need for expanding educational experiences that allow the active participation of scientifically gifted students, such as science camps, in the process of developing educational programs for scientifically gifted students.
