언어적성과 어휘학습 지도의 상관성

국문 초록

본 연구는 2019년 3월부터 6월까지 자료를 수집하고 실험 수업을 통해 언어적성과 어휘학습 지도와의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 연구의 참가자들은 D광역시에 있는 초등학교의 6학년 1개 학급으로서 총 21명이다. 언어적성은 LLAMA 검사에서 총 4 가지 유형으로 분류된다. LLAMA B는 파지력, LLAMA D는 소리 인식 능력, LLAMA E는 소리와 기호의 연관력, LLAMA F는 추론 및 적용력을 활용하는 검사이다. 언어적성과 어휘학습 지도의 상관성을 분석하기 위해 언어적성 검사를 실시하 고 가장 높은 점수가 나온 유형을 그 학습자의 언어적성으로 간주하였으며, 언어적성의 유형별로 어휘학습 지도 방법을 구상하였다. 이때 어휘는 학습자의 배경지식이 결과에 영향을 주지 않게 하기 위해 peudo-words를 활용하였다. 언어적성에 따라 어휘학습 지도를 한 뒤 어휘력 검사를 실시하였는데, 이때 실시한 어휘력 검사는 Nation(1990)의 VLT를 참고하였다. 그 결과, 언어적성 검사 점수와 어휘력 검사 점수는 유의미한 상관관계가 있음을 확인하였다. 그리고 수업 관찰 내용이나 학생 소 감문을 통해 언어적성 기반 어휘학습 지도에 대한 학습자들의 긍정적인 인식도 알아 볼 수 있었다. 이를 통해 앞으로 영어 어휘를 지도할 때 언어적성 기반 어휘학습 지도를 활용하는 것이 효과적인 방법이 될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

영문 초록

This study is to investigate the correlation between language aptitude and vocabulary learning instruction centered around the 6th graders of a Korean elementary school. The participants of the study are 21 elementary school students in Dajeon Metropolitan City. The participants take an language aptitude test consisting of four different language aptitudes. Four different language aptitudes of memory retention, sound recognition, sound-symbol correspondence, and inference/application are called as LLAMA B, D, E and F respectively. Participants are assigned to a language aptitude category if (s)he earns the highest score among the four different aptitude tests. Vocabulary learning instruction activities are developed based on an optimized learning setting of students with different language aptitudes. Pseudo-words are used to tone down the noise of the pre-acquired vocabulary. A vocabulary test is created by customizing Nation’s vocabulary size test (Nation, 1990). The findings are: A correlation between language aptitude score and vocabulary test score is found between vocabulary size and each language aptitude. Students are responded positively in vocabulary instruction appropriated for the language aptitudes. This finding implicates that vocabulary learning instruction based on language aptitude is an effective model to learn and retain new words.
