학습자의 영어 능숙도에 따른 노트 필기 양상과 노트 필기에 대한 인식 비교 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 학술적 영어 듣기를 하며 노트 필기를 실행 한 대학생 학습자들이 영어능숙도에 따라 노트 필기의 양상에 차이를 보이는지와 노트 필기 행위 자체에 대한 인식에 차이가 있는지를 파악하였다. 본 연구의 대상자는 40명의 대학교 1학년생이 고, 이들은 16주 한 학기 동안에 4주, 9주, 14주의 3회에 걸쳐 영어 강의를 들으면서노트 필기를 시행하였다. 참여자들은 사전 영어 능력 시험 점수에 따라 각 20명의 상위와 하위 집단으로 나누어 졌다. 반복측정 분산분석 결과 두 집단 모두 총 단어, 내 용어, 핵심 내용어는 시간이 경과함에 따라 훈련에 따른 질적인 개선을 보였다. 기호와 번호 붙이기, 축약어는 상위 집단이 유의미한 정도로 자주 사용을 하였으나 시간의 변화에 따른 유의미한 변화는 주목되지 않았다. 14주차에 실시된 면담을 통한 인 식 조사 결과 상위 집단과 하위 집단 학습자들 모두 학술적 영어 듣기에서 노트 필기는 학습한 바를 복습하고 듣기 시험 준비 연습을 위해서 필요하다고 서술하였다. 듣기와 동시에 노트 필기하는 것에 있어서 어려움으로는 상위 집단 학생들은 노트 필기 시간이 부족한 것을, 하위 집단 학생들은 자신의 청취력의 부족을 언급하였다. 본 연구의 시사점은 학술적 영어 듣기를 하며 노트 필기를 시행할 경우 교사는 학습자 영어 수준에 맞추어 개별화된 노트 필기 전략을 지도할 필요가 있다는 것이다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to find out whether college students who took notes while listening to academic English showed differences in note-taking aspects depending on their proficiency in English and whether there were differences in their perception of the note-taking activity itself. Forty freshmen participated in the study. They took a 16-week English class and wrote notes three times: the fourth, ninth, and fourteenth weeks. They were divided into upper and lower groups according to their scores on the pre-English proficiency test, and their note-taking was identified by the following areas; total words, content, key words, symbols and numbers, and frequency of abbreviations. The frequency of each criterion was checked by repeated measures ANOVA. The results of the analysis revealed that there is a significant difference depending on the groups and time respectively in the frequency of the total number of words, content and key words, but the interaction of the groups and time is not shown. However, only difference between the groups is significant in the area of the frequency of symbols and numbers, and the frequency of abbreviations. During the interview, the learners stated that in academic English listening, note-taking was necessary for reviewing what they had learned and preparation for listening tests. The upper group mentioned that the difficulty of note-taking while listening was due to the lack of time, whereas the lower group mentioned their lack of listening skills. This study suggests that teachers need to consider learners’ individual differences while teaching note-taking strategies.
