국문 초록

본 연구는 최근 역사교육계에서 논의가 활발한 민주주의 교육에 대해 고찰하였다. 먼저, 기존의 역사교과교육연구들은 주로 민주 시민 양성이 사회과 교육이나 도덕과 교육의 목표이자 과제라고 규정하며 이와의 차별성을 부각하는 역사교과의 특수성을 강조해 왔다. 그러나 최근 한국 사회의 변화는 역사교육계에도 민주 시민 양성에 관한 관심을 증대시키고, 역사교육의 목적이 민주주의의 발전에 기여하는 데에 있음을 강조하는 흐름을 형성하게 하였다. 또한, 이러한 연구들은 민주주의에 기여하는 역사교 육의 과제로 교수 내용, 교수 방법 등 여러 측면의 변화 필요성을 제기하였다. 이러한 경향은 사학사적인 측면에서 보면, 역사적 교훈의 의의를 강조하는 맥락에 있다고 할수 있다. 그러나 이러한 연구 경향들에는 역사적 교훈을 강조함과 동시에 비역사적․ 탈맥락적 이해로서의 현재주의가 나타나고 있기도 하다. 따라서 본 연구는 역사교육이 민주주의 발전에 기여할 필요성에 대해 공감하면서도, 역사학의 방법론적 특수성을 놓치지 말아야 할 필요성과 과제를 제기하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study examines democratic education which is active in history education. First, the existing history education researches have mainly emphasized the specificity of the history subject. They emphasizes the differentiation of democratic citizenship as the goal and task of social studies education or moral education. Recent changes in Korean society, however, have increased the interest in the democratic citizenship, and have led to a trend to emphasize that the purpose of history education is to contribute to the development of democracy. In addition, these studies raise the necessity of various aspects such as teaching contents and teaching methods as the tasks of history education which contribute to democracy. This tendency is in the context of emphasizing the significance of historical lessons from a historical perspective. However, these research trends emphasize historical lessons as well as presentism as a de-contextual or non-historical understanding. Therefore, this study is meaningful in that it emphasize the need to contribute to the development of democracy, while posing the necessity and task to not miss the methodological specificity of history.
