儒家 리더십사상과 T. J. Sergiovanni 도덕적 리더십론의 상응성

국문 초록

공자가 창시한 동양 전통 유가사상 속에는 “爲政以德 · 齊之以禮(덕으로써 다스리며, 예로써 질서정연하게 한다)”의 이념을 근간으로 하는 풍부한 도덕적 리더십사상이 담겨 있다. 한편, 미국의 교육행정 학자인 T. J. Sergiovanni는 전통적인 학교 리더십 이론들이 학교조직에서 적합하지 않음을 논증하였으며, 학교조직에 실제로 적합한 가치와 규범에 기초한 도덕적 리더십을 우선순위로 두는 학교 리더십 체계를 수립하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 古代 동양의 儒家 리더십사상과 현대 서양의 Sergiovanni 도덕적 리더십론이 어떤 상응성을 가지고 있는지를 고찰하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 儒家 리더십사상의 핵심 내용을 爲政以德 · 齊之以禮, 正名 · 擧賢, 無爲而治라는 세 측면으로 나누어 보았고, 다음으로 Sergiovanni의 도덕적 리더십론에서는 가치 중심의 리더십, 도덕적 권위, 리더십의 대체라는 주요 측면들을 고찰하였다. 그 분석 결과, 양자 간의 상응성을 ‘도덕적 권위’, ‘규범의 강조’, ‘내재적 동기 유발’, ‘직접적인 통제의 지양’, ‘이상적 공동체의 추구’라는 다섯 가지 측면에서 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Confucianism founded by Confucius in China contains rich thoughts about moral leadership, based on “Guided by morality and behave in accordance with social norms.” On the one hand, T. J. Sergiovanni, a scholar of educational administration in the United States, has argued that traditional school leadership theories were not appropriate in school organizations and established a school leadership system that prioritizes moral leadership, based on values and norms that are adequate for school organizations. So the aim of this study is to investigate the correspondences between Confucian leadership of the ancient East and Sergiovanni’s moral leadership of the modern West. To this end, first divided the core contents of the Confucian leadership thought into three aspects: Guided by morality and behave in accordance with social norms; rectification of name and recommended worthy; governing by non-interference. Next, Sergiovanni s moral leadership theory examined major aspects of idea-based leadership, moral authority, and substitutes of leadership. As a result of the analysis, this paper suggests that there are five correspondences between the two: ‘moral authority’, ‘emphasis on norms’, ‘avoid direct control’, and ‘pursuit of an idea community’.
