학교준비도가 취학 이후 학교적응과 학업수행능력에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 취학 전 학교준비도가 취학 이후 아동의 발달에 미치는 영향을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 아동 개인 및 가정 변인과 함께 본 연구의 주요 관심사인 학교준비도를 투입하여 이들이 아동발달에 미치는 영향력을 탐색하였다. 한편 가구 소득 수준에 따른 집단을 구분하여 조절효과를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 한국아동패널 자료를 바탕으로 다중회귀분석을 적용하여 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 도출된 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 취학 전 학교준비도는 취학 이후 아동의 학교적응과 학업수행능력에 정적으로 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 저소득 가구의 아동이 중산층 아동에 비해 학교적응 및 학업수행능력 수준이 낮게 나타났는데, 이는 가구소득 수준에 따라 초기 교육격차가 발생할 수 있는 개연성이 있음을 보여준다. 셋째, 학교준비도에 대한 소득 집단의 조절효과 분석결과 학교적응은 유의하지 않았으나, 학업수행능력에서는 유의하였다. 즉 학교준비도가 학업수 행능력에 미치는 효과는 중산층 이상 가구 아동과 비교할 때 저소득 가구 아동에서 0.426만큼 커지는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 초기 학업결손을 미연에 방지할 수 있는 기제로서의 학교준비도의 중요성을 인식하고, 취학 전 학교준비 도를 높이기 위한 방안을 모색해야 할 필요성을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between school readiness and later achievement. Literature review showed that factors influencing school adjustment and academic achievement divided into two categories: children’s personal factors, household factors. The impacts of the variables on later achievement were examined with school readiness, which is a major concern of this study. This study analyzed first grade children in elementary school using representative data from Panel Study on Korean Children(PSKC) of Korea Institute of Child Care and Education, employing multiple regression analysis. The results of the study are as follows. First, school readiness had a statistically significant effect on school adjustment and academic achievement which means children with higher level of school readiness were more likely to reveal higher school adjustment and academic performance. Second, children in low-income households showed lower levels of school adjustment and academic performance than that of above middle-class children. Third, as a result of the moderate effect by income group, school adjustment was not significant, while academic achievement was significant. These findings emphasized the importance of school readiness as a mechanism to prevent early learning deficits and suggested ways for improving the school readiness of preschoolers.
