초등학생의 가정에서의 애완동물 기르기 경험에 관한 사례분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 가정에서의 초등학생 애완동물 기르기 경험의 특성을 탐구하여 애완동물 기르기와 도덕 교과의 제4 영역인 자연·초월적 존재와의 관계 및 가정 내 부모 역할에 어떤 시사를 줄 수 있는지 알아보기 위한 목적으로 실시되었다. 연구를 수행하기 위해 초등학교 4학년 김주희 학생을 22개월 간 참여관찰하고 학생의 일기인 32개월 간의 기록 중 애완동물 관련 내용을 발췌해 분석했다. 연구결과 초등학생 주희는 애완동물 기르기를 통해 돌봄 경험, 관계적 경험, 본질적 경험을 하고 있었다. 돌봄 경험이 지속적으로 진행됨에 따라 인지적·정서적 경험인 관계적 경험으로 진전되었다. 외적 활동이 내적 경험으로 반복적·순환적인 상황을 통해 의미를 가지면서 결국 주희는 자신과 타자와의 관계에서는 수직적 인식을 통해 책임자로서 자연애를 경험하고 타자와는 생명체라는 수평적 동질성 인식을 통해 생명존중이라는 본질적 경험을 하게 된다. 애완동물의 부양육자인 부모 역할이 조절적, 지지적, 보조적일 때의 교육적 효과도 나타났다. 더불어 애완동물 기르기 경험이 실과 교과에서 제시한 실용적 목적을 넘어서 어떻게 도덕 교과의 네 번째 ‘자연·초월적 존재와의 관계’ 영역인 생명존중 및 자연애라는 가치· 덕목의 실현 가능성과 연관되는지를 보여줬다는 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore an elementary school student’s experience in raising a pet at home to determine a possibility of moral education subject program development through a collaborative work between home and school. To conduct the study, fourth-grade Kim Ju-hee was monitored for 22 months and a total of 45 pet-related records were extracted from a diary of 32 months. The study results demonstrated that an elementary school student, Ju-hee, has been exposed to caring, relational and intrinsic experiences through raising a pet. Caring experience may lead to relational experience as it goes on. Relational experience is an understanding of animals and herself, which may ultimately be an understanding of life. It was related to perceptional and emotional experience. Through an external experience  in a repeated and circulatory situation, Ju-hee had come to experience  a responsible position with responsibility through vertical perception and it leads to feel love of life through a horizontal perception, which both herself and a pet are a living creature. Ju-hee has experienced love for nature and respect for life based on her position as manager. This study is demonstrating how a role of parents at home can have impact on their child’s raising a pet activity. In addition, this study also showed how to promote life respect and love of nature through responsibility from raising a pet, which is one of cores in a moral subject.
