중등 교사들의 다문화 교육에 대한 태도 인식

국문 초록

본 연구는 중등 교사들을 대상으로 심층 면담을 통하여 중등 교사들의 다문화 교육에 대한 인식을 조사하고, 다문화 교육이 나아갈 방향과 개선점을 모색하고자 한다. 연구대상은 중등 교사 11명으로 심층면담연구를 수행하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대다수의 중등 교사들은 자신이 가르치는 교과가 다문화적 요소를 많이 포함하고 있으며, 다양성을 학습하는 것을 중요하게 생각하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 다문화 교육 실천 효능감 중 수업 기능 측면의 다문화 교육 실천 효능감은 전체적으로 낮은 자신감을 보였으며, 특히 다문화 수업 자료 개발 및 다문화 가정 학생들의 요구에 맞는 교수방법 적용에 대해서는 낮은 자신감을 보였다. 셋째, 중등 교사들의 다문화 교육 목표에 대한 관점은 현상 유지의 관점을 공유하는 동화주의적 교사, 인간관계 지향적 교사의 목표를 가지고 있는 경우가 많았다. 넷째, 다문화 교육 활성화를 위해 다문화 가정 학생을 대상으로 한 한국어 교육 및 한국문화에 대한 교육 등이 선행되어야 한다고 인식하고 있었으며, 경제적・정서적 지원, 학부모에 대한 교육 및 지원, 교사 학습 자료 개발, 창의적 체험활동 자료 보급 등이 필요하다고 인식하고 있었다.

영문 초록

This study started from the awareness that teachers’ training in multicultural education is critical given that Korean society is becoming more and more multicultural and a new paradigm of multicultural education is needed for the young generation. By means of interviews, we intend to investigate secondary school teachers’ attitudes toward multicultural education, the practice efficacy for multicultural education and their awareness of objectives for multi-cultural education. We also aim to set a desirable direction and find any improvement points. Interviews with eleven secondary school teachers were conducted and their analysis leads to the following results. First, most of the interviewees realize that there are a great number of multicultural features related to their subject matters and it is important to learn about diversity. Second, the interviewees generally show a low level of practice efficacy in teaching techniques and a even lower level especially in developing and applying teaching materials and methods suitable for multicultural classes. Third, referring to the objectives of multicultural education, they generally hold perspectives of assimilationist teachers preferring preservation of status quo, and human relation-oriented teachers. Forth, they believe that first of all, education of multicultural students in Korean language and culture should be done to promote multicultural education. They also think that economic and emotional support should be provided for multicultural families, that educational support is needed for multicultural parents. and that multicultural educational materials and creative experiential activity materials should be developed and provided to them.
