Real Wage as Determinant of Labour Productivity in the Mexican Tourism

영문 초록

The main objective of the present paper is to study the effects of the real wage in the labour productivity of the Mexican Tourism sector. Using yearly data from 1970 to 2004, we find a co-integration relationship showing that average labour productivity depends positively on the real wage and the long-run productivity-wage elasticity is 0.73. Further analysis shows that real wage is weakly exogenous and causes the productivity, in addition, the impulse-response function shows that a positive shock in the real wage produces a small negative effect in productivity for two years and later a great positive productivity.
