Model of Community Based Tourism in Phu Toei Community Frorest, Western Biodiversity Center of Thailand

The main objective of this research was to design a model of Community Based Tourism (CBT) in Phu Toei community forest, Western Biodiversity Center of Thailand. Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) was the main research methodology. Questionnaires were distributed to 60 households in Phu Toei Community to collect information on data influencing of CBT. Then, 15 people were selected by snowball sampling to participate in Appreciation-Influencing-Control (AIC). The model was designed and construct as an output from RRA process. The result showed that areal tourism resource, ecotourism, markets for ecotourism, and administration and management were at the good level. The factors which significantly influenced the opinions of Phu Toei community on sustainable CBT management were sex, age, education level, occupation, income, and community membership. Length of time living in the community was not a significant factor. Regarding to the result of RRA, it was found that the formants had a lot of local knowledge to medicinal plant utilization in Western Biodiversity Center as a main products from community and need this area to be ecotourism site. This group had the opinions, ability, latency and readiness for local development. If the local community develops sustainable tourist attractions, it will increase the opportunity for them to earn a living from tourism. This will increase incomes and help the local people have a good quality life. Eventhough the local people had little knowledge about ecotourism but there had little experience of CBT, transmitting their knowledge about medicinal plant utilization to visitor. Therefore, the researchers designed a model of CBT in Phu Toei community forest in order to maintain and mange their local knowledge base before it disappears. Proposed RRA process for a model of CBT was then introduced as part of research output. Specific learning from RRA to both participants and researchers were mainly on CBT on Western Biodiversity Center and participation process within local own capacity.
