외국인 유학생 진로관련 연구동향 분석: 주제범위 문헌고찰을 중심으로

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 외국인 유학생 진로에 관한 국내 연구 동향을 분석함으로써 외국인 유학생의 진로에 대한 연구 방향 및 진로 교육 프로그램 개발에 대한 방향을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 방법 국내 연구에서 외국인 유학생 진로에 관한 연구의 범위 및 연구의 실질적 가치 결정, 광범위한 연구 결과 요약, 기존에 진행된 외국인 유학생 연구와의 차이 분별을 위하여 Arksey와 O’Malley(2005)가 제시한 주제범위 문헌고찰의 방법으로 2005년부터 2023년 7월까지 연구된 외국인 유학생 진로 관련 논문을 추출 및 검토하여 총 41편의 논문을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 연구질문을 도출하고, 문헌 검색 및 선정의 단계를 거쳐 데이터를 정리하고 결과를 정리하는 순으로 연구를 수행하였다. 결과 첫째, 외국인 유학생 진로 연구는 증가하고 있으나 여전히 부족하며, 유학생을 ‘외국인’이 아닌 ‘20대 대학생’의 관점에서 접근해야 한다. 둘째, 외국인 유학생 진로 연구는 국적별 차이를 고려한 세밀한 분석과 차별화된 지원 방안 모색이 필요하다. 셋째, 외국인 유학생 진로 연구는 문화 적응과 진로 의사결정에 편중되어 있어, 직업 선택, 진로 개발 등 다양한 측면의 종합적 연구가 필요하다. 결론 대학은 유학생의 진로 설계, 직업 탐색, 취업 준비를 지원하는 체계적인 프로그램을 제공하고, 단순 생활 적응이 아닌 자기주도적 진로 설계와 사회 진출을 위한 실질적인 지원이 필요하다. 또한 유학생 진로 지원 프로그램 개발에는 다양한 전문가의 협업이 필요하기 때문에, 유학생의 특성을 이해하고 진로 전반을 지원하려면 다학제적 접근이 필수적이며, 대학은 유학생 유치 외에도 유학생의 교육적 성장과 사회 진출을 체계적으로 지원해야 한다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of domestic research on the career paths of international students to suggest directions for research on the career paths of international students and the development of career education programs. Methods In order to determine the scope and practical value of research on the career paths of international students in South Korea, as well as to summarize extensive research findings and distinguish the differences from existing studies, this study employs the thematic literature review method proposed by Arksey and O'Malley (2005). A total of 41 papers related to the career paths of international students, published between 2005 and July 2023, were extracted and reviewed. To achieve this, research questions were formulated, followed by stages of literature search and selection, culminating in the organization and analysis of the data. Results The results of the analysis showed that, First, while research on the career development of international students is increasing, it remains insufficient. These students should be approached not merely as “foreigners” but as “college students in their 20s”. Second, research on the career development of international students requires detailed analysis considering differences by nationality and the exploration of tailored support measures. Third, existing research on the career development of international students has been focused on cultural adaptation and career decision-making. A more comprehensive investigation covering various aspects, such as job selection and career development, is necessary. Conclusions Universities need to provide systematic programs to support career design, job search, and job preparation for international students, and practical support for self-directed career design and social advancement rather than simple life adaptation. In addition, since the development of career support programs for international students requires collaboration by various experts, a multidisciplinary approach is essential to understand the characteristics of international students and support the overall career path, and universities must systematically support the educational growth and social advancement of international students in addition to attracting international students.
