초등영어 보기(viewing) 학습에 대한 학습자 인식 및 실태 연구

국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 초등영어 보기 학습에 대한 학습자의 인식 및 학습 실태를 살펴보고 2022 개정 교육과정 및 디지털교과서 현장 적용을 위한 지원책 및 시사점을 찾고자 하였다. 방법 서울 소재 A 초등학교 3~6학년 학생 531명을 대상으로 2023년 11월 13일부터 16일까지 전자 방식으로 설문을 실시하였다. 영어 보기 학습 및 영어 디지털교과서에 대한 인식과 실태 영역으로 17문항을 구성하였다. 설문 결과는 기술통계와 함께 빈도분석 및 교차분석, 다중응답 빈도분석 및 교차분석을 실시하여 응답의 경향을 파악하고 일부는 단순회귀분석을 실시하여 변수의 영향력을 검증하고자 하였다. 결과 첫째, 대부분의 학습자들은 자신의 보기 학습 능력 및 태도에 대해 긍정적인 인식을 하고 있으며, 디지털 기기가 보기 학습에 도움이 된다고 응답하였다. 그 중 태블릿을 가장 많이 사용하고 선호하며 영어 디지털교과서, AI 디지털 학습 자료, 유튜브와 같은 보기 학습 자료를 많이 접하였다. 과반수의 학습자가 30분 혹은 1시간 이내로 자기주도적 보기 학습을 하였으나 대부분의 학교 영어 수업에서는 교사 주도의 전체 학습 형태로 보기 학습이 이루어졌다. 둘째, 가정에서의 영어 디지털교과서 경험과 활동도는 낮았으며, 학교에서는 학생 주도의 디지털교과서 활용 영어 수업이 이루어지지 않았다. 셋째, 학습자들은 디지털교과서 활용 기반 보기 학습에 대한 경험에 대해 긍정적으로 답하였으며, 디지털교과서 활용 기반 보기 학습에 대한 학습자의 흥미와 동기가 높은 편으로 나타났다. 결론 2022 개정 교육과정 도입에 앞서 영어 보기 학습에 필요한 디지털 기기의 배분과 확충, 디지털 활용 교육, 보기 지도에 대한 교사 교육이 필요하다. 학습자 수준에 따라 자기주도적 보기 학습이 가능하면서 가정과 학교에서 학생과 교사가 보기 학습에 적극적으로 활용할 수 있는 AI 디지털교과서의 개발 및 보급을 통해 새로운 교육과정이 현장에 제대로 적용될 수 있도록 노력해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study aims to investigate the learners' perceptions and practices of English viewing in elementary school, and find educational implications on teaching viewing. Methods For this, a survey was conducted from Nov. 13 to Nov. 16, 2023 to 531 elementary English learners. They were asked 17 questions about perceptions and practices of viewing, as well as their perceptions and practices with English digital textbooks(EDT) in learning viewing. Results The analysis results are as follows. First, most of the students were positive about their viewing ability and attitudes and reported that digital devices helped their viewing. The students used and preferred tablet PC the most, and they used EDT, AI digital learning materials, Youtube for English viewing. More than half of the students engaged in self-directed viewing within 30 minutes or an hour, but teacher-centered viewing lessons were conducted in most classes. Second, the experiences of students in using EDT were limited at home, also student-centered learning using EDT was not conducted in school. Third, Most of students were positive about viewing using EDT, and had high interests and motivation in viewing using EDT. Conclusions For the successful implementation of the 2022 revised national English curriculum, digital devices need to be supplied to every student for learning viewing, and digital device usage training courses will be helpful for their learning. Furthermore, teachers should make an effort to participate in training to teach viewing effectively. In addition, AI EDT should be developed to promote students' self-directed viewing and student-centered viewing lessons.
