지리교육에서 음식의 정치·경제 지리학적 활용 연구

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 음식의 정치·경제 지리학적 논의들을 고찰해보고 지리교육에 반영하여 세계 문제에 대한 관점을 넓히고 이를 초·중등에 유연하게 연계하여 반영할 수 있는 구체적인 방법을 통해 지리교육에 기여하고자 한다. 방법 이를 위해 글로벌 음식 체계(global food system) 관련 연구와 함께 지리학 및 지리교육에서의 논의를 살펴보았다. 또한 초·중등 지리교육과정 및 교과서에 나타난 음식 활용 콘텐츠들을 검토해 보았다. 이를 통해 초·중등 지리교과 학습에 유연하게 적용할 수 있는 구체적인 학습 사례로 ‘달고나 챌린지’를 구상하여 제시하였다. 결과 현재 초·중등 지리교육과정과 교과서 내용을 검토해 본 결과 음식 소재를 주로 문화지리학적 전통을 주로 반영하고 있었고, 초·중·고등학교 간 연계성도 낮았다. 이에 본 연구는 글로벌 음식 시스템의 이해를 위해 시나리오 기반 학습 방법을 학교급별로 적용할 수 있는 학습 방법을 개발하여 제시하였다. 결론 제시된 두 활동은 음식을 단순히 흥미와 호기심을 넘어 그 안에 담긴 여러 정치·경제지리교육적 이슈를 탐구하여 비판적 시민으로서 세계를 바라보는 관점의 확장을 가능하게 할 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study examines the discussions on political·economic geographies of food and devised a learning method that can be reflected in geography education. Methods To this end, this study reviewed the discussion in geography and geography education along with research related to the global food system. In addition, we reviewed contents using food that appeared in elementary and secondary geography curriculum and textbooks. Through this, the ‘dalgona(sugar honeycomb) challenge’, which is a concrete learning case that can be reflected in geography subject learning, was conceived and presented. Results As a result of examining the contents of the current elementary and secondary geography curriculum and textbooks, the materials of food mainly reflected cultural and geographical traditions, and the connection between elementary, middle and high schools was low. Therefore, this study developed and presented a learning method applying a scenario-based learning method to understand the global food system. Conclusions These two activities are expected to enable expansion of competence as a critical citizen by exploring various political economic geography educational issues contained within, beyond simply using food as a tool to induce interest and curiosity.
