성인학습자의 SNS 사용 경험 탐색

국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 코로나19로 인한 비대면 상황에서 성인학습자의 SNS 사용 경험을 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 방법 코로나19 상황에 최소 1년 이상 SNS 사용 경험이 있는 성인학습자 8명과 심층면담을 활용한 사례연구를 실시하였다. 연구 면담기록지 등을 통한 삼각검증법과 연구참여자 확인(member check)과정을 거쳐 타당성과 신뢰성을 높이려는 노력을 하였다. 결과 코로나19로 인한 비대면 상황에 성인학습자는 현대인으로서 존재 방식의 하나로 SNS를 사용한다는 것을 확인하였다. 구체적으로 사용 경험은 첫째, ‘사회적 고립감을 감소시키는 온라인 사랑방’과 둘째, ‘자기검열을 통해 쓰는 공개 일기장’으로 나타났다. 연구참여자들이 사용한 SNS는 시각적 이미지로 자신의 정체성을 드러내는 ‘인스타그램’과 연결된 친구들과 관계망을 확장해 나가는 ‘페이스북’, 텍스트 중심의 개방형 ‘트위터’ 그리고 친근감을 기반으로 한 폐쇄적인 ‘밴드’였다. 성인학습자들이 코로나19로 인한 오프라인 공간과의 단절 속에서 SNS에 글이나 사진을 올리는 것은 단지 메시지를 전달하는 것이 아니라, 게시글이 공개되고 공유되는 환경에서 다른 사람과의 관계를 생각하였다. SNS는 익명성을 가지고 있지만 SNS에서 이루어지는 행동에서 자신의 정체성이 자연스럽게 드러났다. 관계를 맺기 위해 사생활을 적당히 노출 시키는 등의 공적 영역을 개인의 소유로 만들어 자신을 표현하였다. 연구참여자들은 자신의 감정을 그대로 드러내기 보다는 자신에 대한 타인의 생각을 반영하여 긍정적인 자신의 이미지 형성하려고 연출하였다. 다시 말하면, SNS에서 자신을 표현하고 자신의 이야기를 공유하는데 있어서 스스로 수준을 조절하며 자기 검열된 선택적 표현을 하고 있었다. 결론 온라인과 오프라인의 경계가 불분명해지고, 사적 영역과 공적 영역의 경계가 허물어지고 확장되는 디지털시대에 성인학습자의 SNS 사용에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓혔다. 또한 본 연구는 정보 격차나 사회 심리적 욕구 파악, 세대 갈등 등의 사회적인 문제의 대응방안을 마련하는 기초자료에도 유의미할 것으로 여겨진다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purposes of this study is to explore the experience of adult learners using SNS in non-face-to-face situations caused by COVID-19. Methods A case study was conducted using in-depth interviews with eight adult learners who have used SNS for at least one year in the COVID-19 situation. In order to secure validity and reliability, triangular verification and member check were performed through research interview records. Results It was confirmed that adult learners use SNS as one of the ways of existence as modern people in non-face-to-face situations caused by COVID-19. Specifically, the experience of use was first, an “online love room that reduces social isolation,” and second, an “open diary written through self-censorship.” The SNS used by the research participants was “Facebook,” which expands the network with friends connected to “Instagram,” which reveals their identity with visual images, text-oriented open “Twitter,” and a closed “band” based on familiarity. Adult learners posting articles or photos on SNS amid the disconnection from offline spaces due to COVID-19 did not just convey messages, but considered relationships with others in an environment where posts were released and shared. SNS has anonymity, but its identity has been naturally revealed in actions made on SNS. In order to establish a relationship, he expressed himself by making the public domain owned by individuals, such as appropriately exposing their privacy. Conclusions In the digital era, where the boundaries between online and offline become unclear, the boundaries between private and public areas are broken down and expanded, adult learners understanding of SNS use has expanded. In addition, this study is considered to be meaningful for basic data that prepare countermeasures for social problems such as information gap, socio-psychological need identification, and generational conflict.
