박사과정생의 박사학위과정에 대한 인식 유형 분석

국문 초록

목적 이 연구의 목적은 박사과정생의 진학동기와 졸업 후 경력경로가 다양해짐에 따라, 박사과정생이 학위과정에 대해 갖는 주관적 인식 유형을 분석하여 박사과정생 경력개발 지원의 시사점을 도출하는 데 있다. 방법 연구목적 달성을 위해 개인의 고유한 신념, 태도 등을 측정하기 위해 널리 활용되고 있는 Q방법론을 활용하였다. 비구조화 표집 방식으로 관련 문헌 검토를 통해 박사과정생의 학위과정 인식에 대한 58개의 진술문으로 구성된 Q표본을 추출하였다. P표본 선정은 성별, 결혼여부, 재학유형, 전공계열을 고려하여 이루어졌으며, Q Method software를 활용하여 11점 척도를 기준으로 Q분류를 진행하였다. 결과 박사과정생의 학위과정 인식에 대한 Q요인 분석 결과, 총 4개의 유형이 도출되었다. 유형 1의 ｢전문성 구축형｣은 학위과정을 성장과 몰입, 폭넓은 이해와 관점의 확장 기회로 인식하고, 지도교수의 지도 아래 박사로서 충분한 역량을 갖추게 될 것이라 기대하는 유형이다. 유형 2의 ｢다경험 순응형｣은 근로환경의 사각지대에 놓여있지만 어려운 대학원 생활을 동료들과 함께 극복하고자 하는 유형으로 나타났다. 유형 3은 ｢보상 기대형｣으로 학위과정을 취업 가능성을 높이기 위한 것으로 인식하고 있고, 박사과정생에 대한 경제적 보상이 부족하다고 느끼며, 남들과 다른 삶에 불안감을 느끼고 있는 유형이다. 유형 4의 ｢네트워크 지향형｣은 직업안정성이 전공분야보다 취업에 더 중요하고, 주변인의 지원을 통해 학업을 지속하고 있으며, 진로 및 취업에 학술 네트워킹이 중요하다고 생각하는 유형이다. 결론 박사과정생의 경력개발 지원을 위한 시사점은 첫째, 박사과정생들이 학위과정에 대해 갖는 주관적 인식 차이를 바탕으로 경력개발 지원을 제공할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 박사과정생들이 대학원이라는 학문공동체의 구성원으로서 성장 및 참여할 수 있는 대학원 환경을 조성할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 박사과정생의 인식 유형과 관련한 맞춤형 진로교육 및 서비스를 지원할 필요가 있다. 넷째, 박사과정생이 학위과정에서 경험하는 다양한 활동들에 대해 근로의 관점에서 현실화가 필요하다. 다섯째, 박사과정생들의 학업, 진로, 취업, 정서적 지원을 위한 다양한 인적 네트워크를 형성할 수 있는 체계적인 지원책을 마련할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to derive implications for career development support for doctoral students by analyzing the subjective perceptions of Ph.D. programs. Methods To achieve the purpose of method research, the Q methodology, which is widely used to measure individual s beliefs and attitudes, was used. Through the review of related literature Q samples consisting of 58 statements on the perception of the degree programs of doctoral students was extracted. Q classification was conducted based on an 11-point scale using Q Method software. Results 4 types of doctoral students’ perception were derived. First, “Professionality Building Type” recognizes the degree course as an opportunity for growth, immersion, broad understanding, and expansion of perspective, and expects to have sufficient competence as a Ph.D. under the guidance of an advisor. Second, “Multi-Experience Adaptation Type” tries to overcome difficult graduate school life with colleagues, though feels in the blind spot of the working environment. Third, “Reward Expectation Type” recognizes the degree program as a purpose of increasing the possibility of employment, feels that there is a lack of economic compensation for themselves, and feels anxious about life different from others. Forth, “Network Oriented Type” believes job security is more important than to major, academic networking is important for career and employment. Conclusions The implications for supporting career development of doctoral students are as follows: First, providing career development support based on the subjective differences in perception of the degree program. Second, creating a graduate school environment where doctoral students can grow and participate as members of an academic community. Third, supporting customized career education and services based on perception of doctoral students. Fourth, treating activities experienced by doctoral students as labor standard point of view. Fifth, preparing systematic support measures for doctoral students to form various human networks.
