국문 초록

이 연구에서는 결혼이민자들에게 미디어 리터러시가 꼭 필요한 능력임을 강조하고, 그들을 위한 미디어 리터러시 교육 지원 방안을 모색하였다. 결혼이민자들은 우리 사회의 구성원으로서 날마다 다양한 미디어를 접하며 살아간다. 다양한 미디어 속 콘텐츠에는 사건을 바라보는 생산자의 관점과 태도가 담겨 있다. 특히 다문화 가족 구성원이나 이주민들을 소재로 하는 콘텐츠가 왜곡되면 한국 사회의 다문화 수용성을 감소시킬 위험이 있다. 이러한 미디어의 개선도 중요하지만, 결혼이민자들이 미디어 리터러시를 갖춘 수용자가 되는 것이 중요하다. 미디어 리터러시란 미디어를 비판적으로 읽고 주체적으로 활용할 수 있는 능력이다. 활용 능력이란 궁극적으로 수용자가 콘텐츠를 생산할 수 있는 것까지 포함한다. 결혼이민자들에게 미디어 리터러시 교육을 할 때 중요한 역할을 담당해야 하는 분야가 바로 외국어로서의 한국어 교육이다. 이 연구에서는 결혼이민자들의 미디어 리터러시 교육을 위해 정책적으로 개선해야 할 점과 한국어 교육계가 노력해야 할 것이 무엇인지 제언하였다. 첫째, 결혼이민자들에게 미디어 리터러시 교육이 필요함을 다문화가족지원법 조항에 명시하여 법률적인 근거를 강화해야 한다. 둘째, 한국어교원 자격을 취득하기 위한 교육과정 상 교과목에 미디어 리터러시 관련 과목을 추가해야 한다. 셋째, 한국어교원이 활용할 수 있는 미디어 리터러시 교육 교재를 개발해야 한다. 넷째, 결혼이민자들이 다문화 미디어 콘텐츠를 제작·유통하는 데 더 많이 참여할 수 있도록 제도적 장치를 마련해야 한다.

영문 초록

This study emphasizes the importance of media literacy for marriage immigrants and seeks ways to support them through media literacy education. As members of Korean society, marriage immigrants are exposed to various omnipresent media daily. Media content reflects its producers viewpoints, attitudes, biases, and reactions toward certain phenomena. The diversity of media content also includes viewpoints portraying multicultural family members or immigrants as different, which may influence public opinion toward a reduced acceptance of multiculturalism in Korean society. While improving media content is important, improving marriage immigrants media literacy in Korea is also vital. Media literacy, in this study, refers to a person s critical understanding and autonomous utilization of media. Utilization, in this case, is the user s ability to produce his or her own content. Korean as a Foreign Language (KFL) education is a critical area in media literacy education. In this study, we propose policy improvements for the media literacy education of marriage immigrants and potential directions for Korean language education circles. First, media literacy education must be included in the Multicultural Family Support Act, to provide legal basis. Second, media literacy-related subjects must be added to the educational KFL teaching certification curriculum. Third, a media literacy education textbook must be developed for KFL teachers. Finally, institutional strategies allowing marriage immigrants to further participate in the production and distribution of multicultural media content must be formulated.
