대학생의 교양과목 수강이 학습성과에 미치는 영향 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생의 교양과목 수강현황 분석과 교양교육이 학습성과에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 한국교육종단연구 9차년도(2014) 자료를 이용하여 국내 4년제 대학 재학중인 1,667명의 응답을 분석하였다. 교양과목은 기초교육, 심화교양교육, 비학술적 체험교육, 도구적 실용지식교육의 4대 영역으로 나누어 제시하였다. 본 연구의 구체적인 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교양과목의 일반적인 수강 현황을 살펴본 결과 비학술적 체험교육, 도구적 실용지식교육 영역의 교양과목을 수강한 학생의 비율이 기초교육영역과 심화교양교육영역의 교양과목을 수강한 학생의 비율과 비교하여 상대적으로 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 기초교육영역의 경우 한국어 및 영어 등의 주요국가 의사소통교육 관련 교양과목을 수강한 학생의 비율이 높은 반면, 기타외국어 의사소통 교육 관련 교양과목을 수강한 학생은 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 성별, 학년, 전공형태, 전공계열, 대학소재지, 대학 설립유형에 따라 교양과목 수강 수준에 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 교양교육은 학습성과에 유의한 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 일반적인 교양지식 발달에는 기초교육, 심화교양교육, 도구적 실용지식교육이, 고차적 사고능력발달에는 도구적 실용지식 교육이 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치고 있었다. 또한 대인관계능력 발달에 비학술적 체험교육, 도구적 실용지식교육이, 융복합능력 발달에는 심화교양교육, 비학술적 체험교육, 도구적 실용지식교육이 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to find out whether liberal education improves learning outcomes of university students. To that end, this study used the 9th year data of ‘Korean Education Longitudinal Study(KELS)’. This study applied a taxonomy that divides universities curriculum of liberal and general education into following four areas; basic general education, in-depth general education, non-academic experiential education, and instrumental/practical knowledge education. First, it was found that the experience rate of non-academic experiential education, and instrumental/practical knowledge education was lower than that of basic general education and in-depth general education. In basic general education, it was revealed that the experience rate of the education of Korean language, English communication skills was high while that of other foreign languages communication skills. Second, the results showed that the models of liberal education are significantly different in genders, grade, major, major type, location of university, type of university. Third, the four variables of liberal education showed positive correlations with learning outcomes of universitystudents. Instrumental/practical knowledge education showed positive correlation with all learning outcomes. Basic general education showed positive correlation with overall knowledge of liberal education, high levels of critical thinking, and in-depth general education showed positive correlation with overall knowledge of liberal education, creative and integrated competencies. Non-academic experiential education showed positive correlation with interpersonal competencies, creative and integrated competencies.
