한국대중음악에서 힙합이 성행하는 문화와 사회적 측면에 대한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 한국 대중음악에서 힙합음악이 성행하게 된 이유에 대하여 알아보고자 한다. 미국에서 시작된 힙합이 어떻게 한국사회 젊은 연령층의 대표적 문화 코드가 되었는지 알아보고 가사가 주는 이미지가 현 시대의 젊은이들의 현실을 대변하고 있다는 것을 증명해 보고 자 한다. 이를 위해 미국과 한국의 힙합음악의 도입 시기에 걸친 사회, 경제, 문화 시대적 배경을 비교하고 힙합음악의 성장과정을 살펴보았다. 한국힙합음악을 연도별로 대표곡과 가사의 내용을 표로 정리하여 젊은 청소년 및 사회의 불만을 표출하는 세대들의 시대상을 확인하였다. 또한 만 19세에서 20세 연령층에게 힙합음악 선호도 설문조사를 실시하였다. 분석한 결과 인권탄압에 의해 자신들의 표출양식으로 힙합음악이 성장하였고 사회 경제적인 불평등으로 사회 약자들의 시각을 표현하는데 힙합을 선택하였으며 기성세대에 대한 저항의식이 담긴 젊은이들의 자유를 표현하고 있었다. 한국의 힙합음악 선호도 설문조사에서는 젊은이들이 사회에 대한 비판과 사회적 경제적 문화적 불평등의 문제들을 자신들의 감정으로 직설적이고 자유롭게 표출 할 수 있어서 선호하고 있었다. 따라서 젊은 층들의 사회에 대한 비판의식을 힙합의 가사와 랩을 통해 표현해줌으로써 인기몰이를 할 수 있게 되었다는 결론을 얻게 되었다. 현재 힙합장르가 한국사회에서는 부의 상징처럼 변질되고 있지만 그 근본에는 풀리지 않는 사회계층간의 갈등이 심각하게 도출되고 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to identify the reasons why Hip-hop music has become popular in K-POP music. This research shows how Hip-hop started in the United States and has become a representative cultural code among young people in Korean society. Furthermore, the study proves that the images given by the lyrics reflect the present circumstances of contemporary young people. To this end, I compare social, economic, cultural and historical backgrounds in the early period of the Hip-hop scene in the US and Korea and examine the development process of Hip-hop music. In this paper, I analyze the social, political, and economic situations of young people as well as a generation expressing their dissatisfaction by means of a table that includes the contents of representative songs and lyrics in chronological order. In addition, the results of a preference survey of 19 and 20-yearold respondents are examined is as follows: first, Hip-hop music developed as a tool of expression associated with violations against human rights. Second, Hip-hop music describes the viewpoint of communities disadvantaged by socio-economic inequality and young generation expressing their freedom in a spirit of resistance against an older generation. The survey explains that young people prefer Hip-hop music because it enables them to express social criticism and issues of social, economic, and cultural inequality freely and directly. After considering these factors, I reached the following conclusion: Hip-hop is able to gain popularity with a young generation as a means of expressing social criticism about through lyrics and rap. The term, Hip-hop is currently applied as a symbol of wealth in Korean society, but there is an unresolved problem, namely the conflict between the social classes.
