파키스탄에서의 한국어 교육과정의 현황 및 발전 방향

국문 초록

본고는 파키스탄 내 이루어진 한국어교육의 현황을 파악하기 위해 교육과정의 목적, 자료, 평가로 나누어 살펴보았고 이를 토대로 교육과정의 문제점을 파악하여 향후 발전 방향을 위한 제안을 하였다. 파키스탄의 한국어교육은 불과 13년의 짧은 역사를 지니고 있지만 기간에 비해 매우 주목할 만한 발전을 이루어 왔다. 파키스탄에서의 한국어교육은 NUML대학, 세종학당, 해외고용청, 사설학원 등을 중심으로 여러 방면에서 활발한 행보를 보이고 있으며 기간에 비해 상당한 양의 연구결과물이 축적되고 발전을 위한 다양한 방면의 노력들이 이루어지고 있다. NUML대학 내 한국어학과 개설, 고용허가제로 인한 한국어 학습자의 수적 증가, 유관기관들의 협력, 현지의 요구에 발맞춘 사설학원들의 확대 등은 파키스탄 한국어교육의 특징을 잘 보여주는 동시에 짧은 역사에 비해 눈에 띌 만한 성장과 발전을 보여주는 예들이라 할 수 있다. 그러나 이러한 발전의 이면에는 현실적인 한계와 문제점들이 있어 이 역시 파키스탄 한국어교육에서는 제고해 보아야 할 과제라고 할 수 있다. 현지 학습자의 요구에 부응하는 교육 과정의 목적과 목표가 수립되어야 하겠고 학습자의 요구조사분석에 기초한 교수요목 마련과 현지의 학습 환경에 적합한 한국어교재 편찬 역시 파키스탄 한국어교육 현장에서는 중요한 과제로 남겨져 있다. 현지의 상황과 학습환경에 맞는 실제적인 교재 및 교육 자료의 개발이 시급하다고 할 수 있다. 또한 수요에 비해 공급이 매우 부족한 탓에 검증되지 않은 사설학원의 난립은 한국어교육의 질적 성장을 저해하는 요인으로도 작용할 수도 있을 것이다. 그러므로 한국어교육을 담당하는 강사의 자격 요건을 엄정할 뿐만 아니라 향후 강사의 역량을 강화할 수 있는 현실적인 방안과 대책도 함께 마련되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

In this paper, the present condition of the Korean language curriculum in Pakistan is reviewed by examining the academic goals, materials, and evaluation methods of Korean language education in the country. On the basis of the results, basic problems in Korean language education in Pakistan were identified and corresponding plans for their eradication were suggested. Presently, Korean language education in Pakistan has a limited history of 13 years; however, a lot of achievements can already be observed. The Korean language curriculum in Pakistan is based on the curricula of NUML University, King Sejong Institute, Overseas Employment Corporation, and several private academies that had successfully conducted a substantial amount of research in previous years. Furthermore, efforts are being made for advancing the Korean language in Pakistan. Establishment of a Korean language department at NUML University, increase in the number of students through an employment permit system, cooperation from related organizations, and expansion of private academies are clear examples of Korean language development in Pakistan. However, Korean language education in Pakistan is also facing some limitations and problems, and these need to be resolved quickly. For example, the goal and purpose of the Korean language curriculum should be rearranged on the basis of the demands of local students. Moreover, the syllabus too should be designed according to the requirements of local students. Also, there is an urgent necessity to develop Korean language course materials for Pakistani students. The high demand and low production of Korean language materials in Pakistan has led to an unauthorized increase in the number of private academies that are risking the quality and development of Korean language education in the country. Therefore, not only should the eligibility criteria for Korean language teachers get stricter, but ways to reinforce the capability of these teachers should also be identified.
