영화 <보헤미안 랩소디(Bohemian Rhapsody)> 상영과 아우라(Aura)의 재현

국문 초록

본 논문에서는 영국의 록 그룹 퀸과 메인 보컬 프레디 머큐리의 이야기를 다룬 영화 <보헤미안 랩소디> 상영과 아우라의 재현에 대해 다룬다. 독일의 철학자 발터 벤야민(Walter Benjamin)의 아우라 이론을 기초로 기술복제시대의 아우라의 몰락과 아우라적 경험 및 수용에 관하여 정리하고, 응답과 교감으로서의 시선을 통한 아우라적 경험에 대해 정리하였다. 영화 <보헤미안 랩소디>는 관객과의 교감을 특징으로 하는 퀸의 음악적 특성을 그대로 재현하여 관객들의 아우라적 경험을 가능하게 하였다. 국내에서 특화된 스크린X, 아이맥스 상영관에서의 싱어롱 상영은 퀸의 음악이 나올 때 한 목소리로 노래를 따라 부르고 발 구르기와 손뼉 치면서 관객들로 하여금 공연장에 온 듯한 착각을 불러일으켰다. 관객과 교감을 나누는 가수였던 프레디의 노래에 화답하고 열광하면서 교감을 느끼는 것이다. 싱어롱 상영관의 관객들은 1차적으로 스크린 속의 음악을 연주하고 노래하는 퀸과 상호작용하며, 2차적으로는 영화관 내 관객 간의 상호작용을 가능하게 하였다. 또한 영화 상영 이후 영화를 여러 차례 재관람하는 ‘N차 관람’이나 퀸의 음악과 영상을 찾아보는 적극적인 소비와 감상적 태도를 통해 진정한 예술 경험을 가능하게 하였으며 이로 인해 퀸의 아우라는 재현되었다. 본 논문에서는 일회성, 현존성, 유일무이함이 결여된 기술복제 시대의 예술작품, 영화에서 ‘시선의 주고받음’을 통한 수용자의 아우라적 경험을 중심으로 하는 아우라를 고찰한다.

영문 초록

This study describes reproduction of aura and the screening of the movie, Bohemian Rhapsody based on British rock group, Queen, and its main vocalist, Freddie Mercury. Based on the aura concept from philosopher Walter Benjamin, the study identifies the fall of aura in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction and aura experiences and acceptance. Furthermore, it describes aura experience through the viewpoint of response and communion. The movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, reproduced Queen’s musical characteristics of interacting with the audience, which allowed the movie’s audiences to have aura experiences. The songalong version from ScreenX and IMAX in Korea allowed the films audiences to feel as if they were watching a live performance by singing along, stomping their feet, and clapping to Queen’s songs. The audiences commune with Freddie Mercury, who was a singer who exchanged feelings with his audience, by responding and cheering to his music. Those who watched the sing-along version of the movie first interacted with Queen’s music but also among one another in the theater. In addition, it was possible for the audience to have true artistic experiences through active consumption, such as watching the movie multiple times, as well as feel sentimental after the viewing by listening to Queen’s music or watching videos of their performances. This led to reproduction of Queen’s aura. This study describes aura centered on the aura experience of the consumer through exchanging of attention during a movie or works of art that lacks temporariness, existence, and uniqueness during the Age of Mechanical Reproduction.
