「진로 영어」 교과서 내용 분석

국문 초록

2015 영어과 교육과정의 고등학교급에서 적용되는 과목 중 「진로 영어」 과목은 ‘진로’라는 내용이 영어 교과 속으로 융합되어 들어온 과목으로 볼 수 있다. 본 연구는 2019학년부터 고등학생을 대상으로 적용되는 「진로 영어」 과목의 교과서 내용을 내용중심 영어교육이라는 이론적 틀 속에서 진로교육과 영어과 교육과정의 측면에서 각각 분석하여 현장 교사와 교재 연구자에게 도움이 되고자 하였다. 해당되는 2종의 교과서를 대상으로 각 단원별 하위활동을 대상으로 영어과 교육과정의 소재별 분석 및 일반고등학교 진로교육 세부목표별로 분석하였다. 영어과 교육과정 소재별 분석 결과 2종의 교과서 모두 진로 관련 내용을 소재로 다루고 있었으며 자기관리 역량(41.6%)을 가장 많이 반영한 반면, 지식 정보처리 역량(7.1%)을 가장 적게 반영하였다. 진로교육 세부목표별 분석 결과 2종의 교과서는 진로교육의 4개 대영역을 모두 반영하고 있으나, 자아이해와 사회적 역량개발 영역, 일과 직업세계의 이해 영역, 진로 디자인과 준비 영역에 비하여 진로탐색 영역을 현저히 적게 반영하고 있었다. 연구진은 「진로 영어」를 가르칠 영어과 교사를 위한 진로교육 가이드북 및 연수를 제공하여 진로탐색 영역의 교실활동에 도움을 주는 방안을 제안하였다. 또한 「진로 영어」 과목을 통해 학습자가 진로교육과 더불어 영어 의사소통 능력을 향상시킬 수 있음을 강조하였다.

영문 초록

Among the subjects that are applied at the high school level of the 2015 National English curriculum, Career English can be seen as a subject in which the content career is infused into the English subject. In this study, the Career English, implemented in the high school curriculum in 2019, is analyzed within the theoretical framework of content-based instruction(CBI). The purpose of this study is to analyze both aspects of career education and English education in textbooks to help in-service teachers and researchers. Two types of textbooks were analyzed, and the sub-activities of each unit were analyzed, based on the English materials and the high school career education goals. The results focused on English materials found that both textbooks deal with career-related content, and reflect self-management competency(41.6%) the most, while the knowledge processing competency(7.1%) was the least reflected. Results exploring career education goals discovered that both textbooks reflected all four major areas of career education, but compared to the three areas of self-understanding and social skills development, job professional understanding, and career design, the area of career navigation is reflected significantly less. Researchers suggest that a career guidebook or training programs should be provided for English teachers to design classroom activities. This paper also emphasizes that students can improve English communicative skills as well as benefit from career education through Career English subjects.
