국문 초록

본 연구는 외국인 유학생들을 대상으로 한 인성교육의 기초 연구로 가치관이 충돌하는 갈등상황을 제시하는 딜레마 토론을 활용하여 현재 이들이 가지고 있는 가치관과 신념, 윤리 의식을 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 실제 학부 교양 수업에 딜레마 토론 적용하여 딜레마 토론 과정에서 수집한 자료들과 수업관찰, 설문지, 심층면담 자료를 분석함으로써 이들의 윤리의식을 탐색해보고자 한다. 딜레마 토론과정에서 학생들은 가치 갈등 상황 경험하게 되고, 자신의 기존 가치관들에 대해 재인식하며 가치판단에 있어 개인적 차원에서의 판단이 사회적 차원으로 확대되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 올바른 가치관 확립의 필요성과 중요성을 인지하였으며 딜레마 토론은 이러한 계기를 줄 수 있는 중요한 역할을 함을 본 연구를 통해 알 수 있었다. 이뿐만 아니라 학생들은 다른 사람들의 생각을 존중하고 다양성을 인정하며 사고의 폭을 넓히는 토론의 효과와 동시에 한국어 능력도 향상됨도 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 7주간의 짧은 기간과 제한된 연구대상으로 인해, 본 연구 결과가 유학생들의 윤리의식을 대표하기에는 다소 무리가 있다. 그러나 딜레마 토론 과정에서 나타난 현재 유학생들의 윤리 의식을 구체적으로 탐색해 보았다는 점과 동시에 학생들이 딜레마 토론을 통해 가치관의 갈등 상황을 경험함으로써 기존에 자신이 가지고 있던 가치관에 대해 새로운 관점에서 생각해 볼 수 있는 기회를 제공했다는 점에서 본 연구의 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study examines current values, beliefs, and ethical awareness using discussions of dilemmas that present situations of conflicting values as basic research in character education for foreign students. To this end, this study aims to explore ethical awareness by analyzing the data collected from dilemma discussion processes, participation observation, students’ opinion writing, reflective learning journals, questionnaires, and in-depth interview data. The results indicated many changes in the students who were exposed to values conflict through discussion and were able to rerecognize their values. Furthermore, when students made value judgements in a given situation, it was found that the standards of judgement expanded from a personal level to a social level. Students were also aware of the need for and importance of establishing the right values, and dilemma discussion played an important role in initiating such triggers. Moreover, this study was able to determine the effects of discussion on students, including respecting other people’s ideas, recognizing diversity, and broadening the scope of their thinking. Last, foreign students Korean language skills improved. As this study was conducted over only seven weeks with a limited number of students, it has some limitations. For example, it cannot clearly indicate their personalities. Instead, this study examined the ethical awareness of current international students through dilemma discussion. Furthermore, the discussion offers students a new perspective on values by making them experience value conflicts.
