조기유학에 관한 국내 학술지 연구동향 분석

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 2000년부터 2018년까지 18년 동안 국내에서 수행되어 온 조기유학에 관련된 연구들의 전반적인 동향을 살펴봄으로써 향후 조기유학 관련 연구 방향과 실천적 시사점을 탐색하고자 함이다. 이를 위해 국내에서 발표된 석·박사 학위논문 37편과 학술지 논문 53편, 총 90편의 논문을 2019년 1월부터 6월까지 문헌검색과 수집 및 선정을 하였으며, 연구시기, 연구대상, 연구방법 및 연구주제에 따라 연구동향을 분석하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구주제별로 가장 큰 비중을 차지한 것은 조기유학생의 현지 적응, 경험 및 실태였으며, 다음으로 귀국 유학생의 귀국 후 적응 및 경험 관련 논문이 높았고, 학부모의 동기, 인식 및 특성과 영어 및 한국어에 관련된 주제가 같은 순으로 나타났다. 둘째, 연구시기별 동향은 조기유학생 수가 정점을 이룬 시기와 그들이 귀국한 시기가 맞물려서 증가 추세를 보이다가 급격히 감소되는 추이를 보였다. 셋째, 연구대상별로는 조기유학생만을 대상으로 한 연구가 가장 많았고 이어서 학부모만을 대상으로 한 논문과 학생과 학부모를 함께 대상으로 한 논문 순으로 나타났다. 넷째, 조기유학 목적지로 선택한 유학국가별로는 영어권이 90% 이상이었다. 다섯째, 연구방법별에서는 질적연구가 가장 높은 비율을 차지하였고, 다음으로 양적연구, 문헌 및 기타연구로 나타났다. 끝으로 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 성공적인 조기유학의 성과를 이끌어내기 위한 조건과 교육당국의 정책 및 앞으로의 조기유학 연구관련 방향성을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

In the present study, the current scenario of studying abroad at an early age was examined through the analysis of overall research trends; practical implications of studying abroad at an early age and possible research directions in the future were also explored. Research trends were analyzed according to research period, subjects, methods, and topics by selecting a total of 90 papers including 37 master’s theses and doctoral dissertations and 53 academic journals published in Korea from 2000 to 2018. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, with specific reference to research topics, adaptation, experience, and the actual situation of students studying abroad at an early age were most widely studied. Adjustment and experience after returning home took up the second largest percentage, followed by parents’ motivation, perceptions, and characteristics; topics related to English and Korean, in the order presented here. Second, with regard to trends based on research period, the number of studies increased due to the number of students who went to study abroad at an early age reached its peak during this period as well as interlocked with the period when they returned home, After that, it showed a sharp decrease. Third, the number of studies that targeted such students alone was the highest, followed by those that targeted the parents of such students only and those that targeted students and parents together. Fourth, more than 90% of the countries chosen as study-abroad destinations were English-speaking countries. Fifth, in terms of research methods, qualitative research occupied the highest percentage, followed by quantitative research, literature, and other studies. Finally, this study presented conditions and policy implications for education authorities for successful outcomes of studying abroad at an early age, as well as future research directions based on the results of the study.
