TV 드라마 대본을 통한 한국어 관용표현의 사용 맥락 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구는 TV 드라마 대본을 대상으로 관용표현이 사용되는 담화 맥락의 특징을 살펴보고, 한국어 학습자를 대상으로 한 관용표현 교육을 위한 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 드라마 2편의 중 각 10화까지의 대본에 포함된 관용표현을 분석 하였다. 이때 주로 담화 맥락의 구성 요소 중 담화 기능, 담화 참여자의 관계, 담화의 공식성에 초점을 두고 관용표현 사용의 특징을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 본 연구의 분석 대상이 된 2편의 TV 드라마에서는 주로 비난하기, 논평·평가하기, 설명하기의 기능으로 관용표현이 사용되었다. 담화 참여자 관계는 50% 이상의 관용표현이 화자가 청자보다 힘적으로 우위에 있는 경우에 사용되었다. 마지막으로 공식성의 경우 80% 이상의 관용표현이 사적 상황에서 사용된 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 여러 가지 원인으로 인해 관용표현의 사용이 상대적으로 선호되는 맥락이 존재하며, 한편으로는 사용의 제약이 발생하는 경우도 있음을 의미한다. 예를 들어 본 연구에서 사용된 자료의 경우, 관용표현은 주로 화자가 대화의 화제가 되는 대상, 혹은 청자에게 부정적인 태도를 가지고 있으며, 이를 드러내고자 할 때 사용되었다고 할 수 있다. 그러나 화자가 청자보다 지위가 낮거나, 나이가 어릴 때, 또한 공적인 상황에서는 이러한 관용표현의 사용이 제한될 수 있다. 따라서 한국어 학습자를 대상으로 관용표현을 교육할 때는 반드시 해당 관용표현이 주로 사용되는 담화 기능, 담화 참여자 관계, 담화의 공식성을 고려한 교육이 이루어져야 한다. 한편 본 연구에서 분석한 자료는 2편의 TV 드라마 대본에 불과하므로, 향후 개별 관용표현이 사용된 다양한 담화 맥락을 보다 다양한 자료를 통해 고찰하는 연구로 이어져야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of context in which idiomatic expressions are used through analysis of TV drama scripts. Korean idiomatic expressions are important educational item in Korean language education for foreigners. In order for Korean learners to learn idiomatic expressions properly, it is important to know their meaning, but it is also essential to provide information on correct use. Foreigners are not only lacking intuition about Korean, but also lacking experience in various situations where idiomatic expressions are used. In this study, we tried to get the pedagogic implications for the teaching of idiomatic expressions through analysis of TV drama script. Especially, we analyzed characteristics of the use of idiomatic expressions, focusing on the function of discourse, the relationship of discourse participants, and the formalities of discourse. As a result, in the two TV dramas analyzed in this study, the idiomatic expressions appeared 164 times, and they were mainly used for criticizing, commenting, evaluating and explaining. When we look at the relationship of discourse participants, more than 50% of idiomatic expressions were used when the speaker held a dominant position in terms of social status and power. Finally, in the case of formalities, more than 80% of idiomatic expressions were used in private situations. These results suggest that the use of idiomatic expressions could be preferred in some conditions due to various reasons, and there also could be restrictions in some conditions. For example, in the case of the data used in this study, the idiomatic expressions were mainly used when the speaker has a negative attitude toward the subject of conversation, or the listener, and to express it. However, the use of idiomatic expressions limited when the speaker is lower in social status than the listener, or in official situations. Therefore, when teaching idiomatic expressions for Korean learners, education should consider the discourse function, the participant relationship, and the formality of the discourse. However, since the data analyzed in this study are only two TV drama scripts, it is necessary to continue the study to investigate various contexts in which individual idiomatic expressions are used through various data.
