사회과 수업에서 ‘초등다움’의 의미 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 새로운 시대가 요구하는 교육의 모습과 초등교육의 정체성이 어떤 지점에서 맞닿아 있는지 살펴보고, 초등 사회과가 어떤 모습으로 자리 잡아야 할 것인가에 관한 논의이다. 사회과 수업에서 발현해야 할 ‘초등다움’을 논의하기 위해 사회과 교육과정과 학습자를 이어주는 다양한 층위의 교사들을 대상으로 2018년 3월부터 6월까지 총 12회의 포커스 그룹 인터뷰(FGI)를 실시하였다. 동학년교사그룹, 수업분석전문가그룹, 사회과교육연구자그룹은 사회과 수업에서 ‘초등다움’은 협력의 초보적 연습으로서 모둠학습과 삶과 맥락 지어지는 학습 내용, 다양한 교과의 조합으로 구성되는 배움을 통해 발현될 수 있다고 하였다. 이를 바탕으로 상상의 수준에서 지향해야 할 사회과의 모습을 그려 본다면, 면대면 교육공간에서 인간 비인간과 어떻게 관계 맺을 것인가를 연습하고, 교육과정에 명시된 사회과학탐구 방법들이 실현될 수 있는 사회 기반이 구축되고, 과정으로서의 교육이 끊이지 않고 순환되는 모습이 될 것이다. 새로운 시대가 공존과 융합, 창의성과 인간 주체성의 회복을 필요로 한다면 초등교육은 이런 변화에서 잘 버틸 기초체력을 기르는 인큐베이터의 역할을 해야 할 것이다. 그리고 사회과는 주제의 유연함과 넘나들기가 허용되는 교과로서 시대가 요구하는 능력의 연습공간으로 정체성을 확보해야 한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the cross points between the new era’s education and the identity of the elementary school class, and to discuss how to re-shape the elementary school social studies class. In this article, a Focus Group Interview(FGI) had been conducted throughout the teachers from numerous groups, who mainly connects the elementary social studies curriculum with the learners, to look into the essential elements of the elementary social studies class. Three groups, Identical Grade group, Classroom Analyst Expert group, Social Studies Researchers group, agree with that the identity of the elementary school education in social studies class comes from the Group Activity as the first step of the cooperation, from the curriculum contents which oriented from the real life context, and from the inter-subject curriculum. Meanwhile, admitting the institutional and/or practical boundaries of the social studies class in real world, the ideological social studies class is to pursue the space of opportunity which all learners may practice face to face and/or face-to-nonface communication ; the social infrastructure which the methods of social studies may come true as in this own curriculum books ; and the endless circulation of process oriented education. As the new era requires coexistence, interrelation, and the recovery of human subjectivity, elementary school education is to be the basic incubator for enduring strength in such rapid changes. Therefore, the social studies classroom should secure its identical position as the practice area of new era with its flexibility and inter-subject nature.
