MOOC 활성화를 위한 블록체인 기술 적용 연구

국문 초록

4차 산업혁명의 일환으로 핵심기술 중 하나인 블록체인은 금융, 상업, 헬스, 등 여러 분야에 적용되고 있다. 본 논문은 이 기술을 이용하여 MOOC(Massive Open Online Courses)를 보다 효과적으로 사용하고 활성화 할 수 있는 방안에 대해 연구를 진행하였다. 이를 위해 우선 교육용 블록체인 응용 사례를 분석하여 블록체인 기술을 교육에 사용하는 경우의 장점과 문제점에 대해서 논의하였다. 둘째, 실제로 학습자가 인식하는 해외 명문대 MOOC의 문제점을 조사하기 위해 웹 기반 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 설문조사 결과 해외 MOOC 수강의 대표적인 문제점은 비영어권 학습자가 느끼는 언어 장벽, 상호 작용의 한계, 집중력 상실, 낮은 수료율, 학습자의 고립감, 실재감 부족, 수준에 맞는 콘텐츠의 부족, 학습 결과 평가의 정확성 및 공정성 부재 등이 대표적인 문제로 드러났다. MOOC의 이러한 점을 극복하고 활성화를 위해, 본 연구에서는 MOOC의 아키텍처와 절차상에 블록체인 기술을 이용한 개발 방법을 제시하였다. 첫째, MOOC의 낮은 수료율은 학습 내용 및 결과를 블록체인의 학습원장에 기록함으로 MOOC 수료증에 대한 신뢰성을 확보할 수 있으며, 둘째, MOOC의 상호작용 부족 문제는 개별지도 요청 등의 스마트 컨트랙트 기능을 통해 개선될 수 있다. 셋째, MOOC의 평가 문제는 블록체인의 스마트 컨트랙트로 해결할 수 있으며, 그리고 마지막으로 수준별 맞춤 콘텐츠 부족과 비영어권 학습자를 위한 콘텐츠 부족 문제는 블록체인의 통화속성으로 해결될 수 있다. 제시된 개발 방법을 바탕으로 연구자는 MOOC시스템을 구축하고, 록체인의 통화속성을 이용한 보상시스템을 적용한 MOOC 시험서비스를 실시하였다. 시험서비스 결과 포인트를 통한 보상시스템을 적용하니 수강생들의 참여도가 높아진 걸 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서, 블록체인 기술을 활용하여 적용할 경우 현재 MOOC가 가지고 있는 현 문제점들을 극복하고 효율성을 높이는데 도움이 될거라 예상된다.

영문 초록

As part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Blockchain is amongst one of the core technologies, and is being applied to various fields such as finance, commerce, health, and so on. This paper begins by investigating how to use and enhance MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) more effectively. Applications of blockchain technology in education were found, with advantages as well as problems in its application in education. The web-based survey was used to investigate the problems of the MOOC, which were assessed and completed by the students. The results of the survey showed that the major problems of MOOC was the low completion rate, language barriers, lack of interaction, lack of concentration, students isolation, lack of reality, lack of appropriate content and lack of accuracy and fairness in evaluation. As a result of this research, the research findings and its implications are discussed. Firstly, the low completion rate of MOOC can be improved by enhancing the credibility of the MOOC certificate by keeping a record of the learning process and its results in the blockchain ledger. Second, MOOC s lack of interaction can be improved through the availability of private tutoring using smart contracts. Thirdly, the issues pertaining to the evaluation of MOOC can be solved within the smart contract of the blockchain. And finally, the problem of lack of content and lack of contents for the non-English speaking learner can be solved by utilizing digital currency based upon the blockchain and monetization of digital currency. Based on the proposed plans, the researcher developed the MOOC system and tested the service utilizing a compensation system with the blockchain s currency attributes. As a result of these changes, the participation rate increased by when they were rewarded with points. Therefore, applying blockchain technology helps to overcome the current problems of MOOC and improve efficiency.
