조기영어학습 경험이 초등학교 영어학습에 미치는 영향: 정의적 영역을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 초등학교 3학년 이전의 조기영어교육 경험이 초등학생들의 영어 학습에 대한 정의적 영역(자기효능감, 동기, 태도, 흥미, 불안)에 미치는 영향을 살펴보는 것이다. 이러한 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해, 전북 지역에 위치한 5개 초등학교의 3, 4, 5학년 학생 202명의 학생들을 표집하였고, 그들의 조기영어교육 경험과 영어 학습에 대한 정의적 영역에 대한 설문지를 배포하였다. 수집된 모든 데이터는 SPSS 24.0을 통해 분석되었으며, 조기영어교육 경험 여부를 독립 변인으로 설정하여 학생들의 정의적 영역에 집단간 차이가 있는지 살펴보기 위해 독립표본 t-검정을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 초등학교 3학년 이전의 조기영어교육은 초등학생들의 정의적 영역 일부에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 자기효능감, 흥미, 태도 영역에서 통계적으로 유의한 수준의 차이가 발견되었지만, 동기와 불안감 영역에서는 통계적으로 유의한 수준의 차이가 발견되지 않았다. 연구 결과에 기반하여, 교육적 함의와 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of early English education before third grade in elementary school on the affective characteristics of elementary school students toward English language learning such as self-efficacy, motivation, attitude, interest, and anxiety. In order to accomplish this objective, 202 3~5 grade students in 5 elementary schools located in Jeonbuk province were sampled, and questionnaire regarding the experience of early English education and their affective characteristics on English learning were distributed. All collected data collected were analyzed by SPSS 24.0. In order to verify the effects of early English education on the students’ affective domains, independent samples t-test were implemented. The early English education before the third grade of elementary school had positive effects on some of the children s affective characteristics of learning English. In particular, statistically significant differences were found in areas of self-efficacy, interest, and attitude. However, no statistically significant difference was found in the areas of motivation and anxiety. Based on these results, pedagogical implications and suggestions for further studies were discussed.
