반려견은 아동의 삶에 긍정적인가?

국문 초록

본 연구는 급증하는 반려견 양육 현상을 반영하여 불안 및 우울, 반려견 양육 여부가 아동의 주관적 행복감에 미치는 영향, 불안 및 우울과 아동의 주관적 행복감 관계에서 반려견 양육 여부가 매개하는가를 살펴보기 위해 실시되었다. 이를 위해 8차「한국아동패널」을 이용하였는데 84∼92개월 사이의 아동 1,598명을 대상으로 수집된 자료는 기술 통계, Pearson의 적률 상관계수, 위계적 중다회귀, Baron과 Kenny(1986), Sobel(1982) 검증을 통해 분석되었다. 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 여아인 경우, 주관적으로 건강하다고 인식할수록, 불안과 우울 정도가 낮을수록, 그리고 반려견을 키울 때, 이들의 주관적 행복감이 높았다. 둘째, 반려견 양육 여부는 부분 매개 효과가 있어 불안 및 우울이 심할 경우, 반려견 양육을 통해 아동의 주관적인 행복감이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 바탕으로 논의와 제언을 하였다.

영문 초록

With the increased interest in the companion animals, the objective of this study was to examine the effect of anxiety and depression with a focus on keeping companion dogs as a mediator on the children’s subjective happiness. Using 8th year Panel Study on Korean Children at Korea Institute of Child Care and Education, 1,598 children from 84∼92 months were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation, hierarchical multiple regression. To analyze the mediating effect, this study performed Baron and Kenny’s procedures for mediating hypothesis and the Sobel test. The results of this study were as follows. Firstly, the variables that explained children’s subjective happiness were sex, subjective health condition, anxiety and depression, breeding companion dogs. When they were girl, felt healthier, experienced anxiety and depression less, and raised companion dogs, they showed the higher scores of subjective happiness. Secondly, keeping companion dogs was found to have a partial mediating effect on the relationships between the children’s anxiety and depression and subjective happiness. The result implies that companion dogs alleviate children’s anxiety and depression and lead to increase subjective happiness. Based on these results, various discussions and implications were suggested.
