텍스트마이닝을 통한 중등교사 임용시험 영어교과교육학의 출제경향 분석

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 2015년부터 2019년까지의 중등영어교사 임용시험 중 가장 높은 비중을 차지하고 있는 영어교과교육학 분야의 중심 내용과 출제 경향을 실증적, 객관적으로 알아보는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 텍스트마이닝과 언어네크워크 분석 방법을 적용하여 임용시험에 포함된 핵심어를 찾고, 주요 핵심어들의 연결중심성과 매개중심성을 추출하여 그 결과를 시각화 하였다. 연구 결과는 다음 두 가지로 요약할 수 있다. 첫째, 지난 5년에 걸쳐 공통적으로 출현빈도가 가장 높았던 핵심어는 ‘student’로 나타났으며, 특히 2019년에 그 빈도수가 커진 것을 통해 학생들의 다양성이 고려되고 있다는 점과 교사의 역할도 함께 다양화되고 있다는 점을 발견할 수 있었다. ‘student’ 이외에 ‘form,’ ‘activity,’ ‘task,’ ‘test,’ ‘word,’ ‘writing’과 같은 단어들의 출현 빈도 역시 최근 높아지고 있음을 확인하였으며, 짝 또는 그룹으로 함께 하는 활동, 그리고 말하기, 쓰기와 같은 언어의 산출 기능(productive skill)이 강조되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 영어교과교육 분야에 있어 연결중심성과 매개중심성이 모두 높았던 시기는 2016년, 2018년, 2019년으로 나타났으며, 주요 핵심어인 ‘student’의 연결중심성과 매개중심성 또한 매년 공통적으로 높게 나타났다. 연결중심성이 높았던 단어들로는 2019년과 2018년의 ‘task,’ ‘writing,’ ‘form,’ 2016년의 ‘teacher,’ ‘English,’ ‘language’가 있었으며, 매개중심성이 높았던 단어들로는 2019년의 ‘task,’ ‘part,’ 2018년의 ‘class,’ ‘form,’ 그리고 2016년의 ‘teacher,’ ‘language,’ ‘test,’ ‘English’가 있었다. 즉, 이러한 단어들이 주변의 다른 단어들을 연결하는 중심 역할과 또는 다른 주제들로 연결해주는 중간 역할을 하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 한편, 출현 빈도 및 연결중심성은 낮았으나 상대적으로 매개중심성이 높았던 2019년의 ‘part,’ 2016년의 ‘test,’ 2015년의 ‘English’와 ‘CMC’는 다른 핵심적 주제로의 확장을 설명해주는 중요한 단어들이므로 주목할 필요가 있다. 본 연구의 결과가 앞으로 중등임용시험을 준비하는 예비교사들과 이들을 가르치는 이들에게 긍정적으로 작용할 수 있기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the major content and patterns of the test items empirically for the secondary school English teacher recruitment exam particularly in the area of English pedagogy from 2015 to 2019. By applying text mining and semantic network analysis methodologies, major keywords with high frequency included in the exam were found, and the structural characteristics in language network; degree centrality and betweenness centrality; were assessed and then visualized. Major findings are as follows. First, out of 20 keywords with high frequency, one with the highest frequency during the five consecutive years was found to be ‘student.’ As its frequency has become the highest in 2019, it can be inferred that the variety of students’ characteristics as well as that of teachers’ roles are becoming more important. Aside from ‘student,’ other keywords such as ‘form,’ ‘activity,’ ‘task,’ ‘test,’ ‘word,’ and ‘writing’ also appeared frequently. Additionally, pair or group activities and productive skills like speaking and writing are revealed to become important. Second, 2016, 2018, and 2019 were found to be the highest in terms of the centrality. Particularly, ‘student’ was the most central and mediating keyword. In addition, such keywords as ‘task,’ ‘writing,’ ‘form’ (2019 and 2018), ‘teacher,’ ‘English,’ and language’ (2016) were identified to be highly central, and others such as ‘task,’ ‘part’ (2019), ‘class,’ ‘form’ (2018), ‘teacher,’ ‘language,’ ‘test,’ and ‘English’ (2016) to be highly mediating. Meanwhile, four other keywords (i.e. ‘part’ in 2019, ‘test’ in 2016, and ‘English’ and ‘CMC’ in 2015) were found to be less frequent and the least central, but they were identified relatively to be highly mediating. It would mean that they are expected to play the key roles by mediating between other major topics in the coming exam. It is hoped that the results of this study provide a guideline both to the university professors and pre-service English teachers.
