여자대학 교육 환경에 대한 재학생들의 인식과 요구: 수도권 A여자대학교 사례

국문 초록

본 연구는 여자대학 학생들이 대학이 제공하는 교육 환경에 대하여 어떠한 인식과 요구를 가지고 있는지 탐색하였다. 아울러 지난 5년 동안 수집된 자료를 분석하여, 학생들의 요구가 어떻게 변화하였는지를 살펴봄으로써 여자대학의 미래 발전 방 향을 도출하고자 하였다. 수도권 소재 A여자대학 학생을 대상으로 하는 사례 연구를 수행하였고, 대학이 제공하는 각종 교육 프로그램과 학생 지원 제도 및 서비스에 대한 인식과 요구를 묻는 주관식 문항에 대한 응답 자료를 분석하였다. 총 1,077명의 자료에 대한 질적 내용분석이 이루어졌다. 분석 결과, 학생들은 대학이 가진 교육적, 인간 집합적, 물리적 환경의 한계를 인식하고 있었다. 학생들은 일반 교양교육과 함께 여성 특화 교육의 균형적 제공이 필요하고, 여자대학의 인간 환경이 가진 한계를 극복하는 다양하고 풍부한 상호작용 기회가 마련되어야 한다고 인식하고 있었다. 또한 학생들은 보다 안전한 캠퍼스와 여성 친화적인 제도의 도입을 요구하였다. 지난 5년 동안 학생들의 요구가 어떻게 변화했는지를 살펴본 결과, 여성 특화 교육 제도 및 프로그램의 확대와 캠퍼스 안전 확보에 대한 요구가 지속적으로 증가하였다. 요약하면 학생들은 여자대학이 보편적인 고등교육기관으로서 책무성을 충실히 이행하면서도 여성의 정체성을 이해하고 높이는 교육을 보다 특별하게 수행하는 교육적 정 체성을 갖는 대학이 되길 바라고 있었다.

영문 초록

This study explored what the campus environments means to students in A women’s university and what they needs for better campus life and learning. In addition, the study examined the changes in students’ perceptions and demands on their campus learning environments during the five years (2014-2018). 1,077 students’ open-ended responses from K-NSSE in A women’s university were analyzed. Qualitative content analysis was conducted. The findings suggest that the students recognized the problems of the educational, human aggregated, and physical environments of the university. What they need for better learning and life on campus includes 1) balance between general education and special education for women, 2) a variety of rich interaction to overcome limitations of human environments of women s university, and 3) a safe campus environment and a woman-friendly university system. Longitudinal analysis on students’ responses found that an ever-increasing demands exist for women-specific education programs and campus safety. Based on the findings, this study suggested academic and practical implications for improving educational environments of women’s university.
