스마트폰 어휘 앱 활용에 대한 대학생들의 어휘학습인식과 정의적 요인이 토익 점수 향상에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 스마트폰 어휘 앱 활용에 대한 인식과 정의적 요인이 토익성적 향상에 영향을 미치는가를 알아보는 데 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 2019년 기숙형 토익집중프로그램에 5주간 참가한 161명의 대학생들이며 참가자들의 반 편성 토익점수 평균을 기준으로 ‘상위’와 ‘하위’ 두 집단으로 분류한 후 사전⋅사후 토익 향상점수 결과와 연구 질문에 관련된 설문조사결과를 통계 분석한 것이 연구자료이다. 본 연구를 위해 세 개의 연구 질문을 설정하였고, 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 스마트폰 어휘 앱 학습은 토익점수 향상에 영향을 주는가에 대한 결과로서 상위집단이 하위집단보다 다소 높은 향상도를 보였고 통계적으로 유의미한 결과를 보였다. 둘째, 스마트폰 어휘 앱 학습에 대한 두 집단의 선호도 조사에서 두 집단 모두 긍정적 평가를 보였 으며 상위집단이 하위집단보다 다소 높게 나타났다. 셋째, 스마트폰 어휘 앱 학습에대해 두 집단 간 정의적 요인에 차이가 있는가에 대한 결과로서 ‘외재적 동기, 자아 효능, 성취동기’의 순으로 상관관계가 높았으며 통계적으로 유의미하게 나타났다. 따라서 스마트폰에 익숙한 대학생들에게 어휘 앱은 토익학습에 유용한 학습도구가 된다는 연구결과를 얻었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether using smartphone vocabulary application(hereafter app) affects on TOEIC achievement of 161 college students who participated in a 5-week TOEIC intensive program, how they perceive the vocabulary app, and what affective factors relate to TOEIC achievement. The study examined three research questions; first, whether there was a positive relationship between TOEIC achievement and smartphone vocabulary app; second, whether higher score group showed different perception and preferences of smartphone vocabulary app from the lower scored group; third, what affective factors of using smartphone vocabulary app were related to TOEIC achievement. The result of the first question was that using smartphone vocabulary app in higher scored group was more effective than lower scored group, which showed a statistical significance. The result of the second question was that both groups showed positive perception of using smartphone vocabulary app, even though higher group s preference was better than lower scored group. The final result of the third question showed that there was a significant relationship between TOEIC achievement and three out of five affective factors; achievement motivation, self efficacy and extrinsic motivation. That is, the higher motivation and self efficacy learners have, the higher achievement they make. With this results, there are some suggestions as follows; first, teachers should provide students with controlled environment such as checking assignment and taking regular vocabulary quiz. Second, it is necessary to offer smartphone vocabulary apps and paper books. That s why these two study materials can be helpful for different kinds of study strategy according to study goals. Third, for effective learning, smartphone vocabulary apps need to be developed to equip with authentic materials.
