의과대학 귀국 대학생의 대학생활 어려움에 대한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 의과대학 귀국 대학생이 대학생활에서 경험하는 어려움을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 재외국민 특별전형으로 의과대학에 입학하여 재학 중인 다섯 명의 학생을 대상으로 2019년 6월부터 8월까지 질적 사례 연구를 진행하였다. 연구 결과, 귀국 대학생의 대학생활 어려움은 학업적 어려움과 정서적 어려움으로 분류될 수 있었다. 학업적으로는 한국어 능력으로 인한 어려움을 경험하였으며 특히 읽기, 어휘, 글쓰기 영역에 어려움을 겪는 것으로 나타났다. 뿐만 아니라 한국 학생 에 비해 학업 역량이 뒤쳐진다는 인식을 가졌고, 한국 교육방식에 낯섦을 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 귀국 대학생은 이 같은 어려움을 개인의 문제로 감내하고 스스로 해결하는 소극적 대처 양상을 보였다. 또한, 대학생활 초반에는 의과대학 공동체를 자 신과 분리하여 소속감을 느끼지 못하는 정서적 어려움을 겪었으며 국내 생활에서 경험하는 어려움을 가족의 지지와 응원을 통해 위로를 받는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 학생들은 점차 자기이해와 반성적 성찰, 학업과 생활에 대한 긍정적인 마인드를 통 해 귀속 집단에 적응하며 의과대학 학생으로서의 정체성을 획득해 나갔다. 이러한 연구 결과는 의과대학 귀국 대학생이 경험하는 대학생활에서의 어려움이 의과대학이라는 교육 환경 맥락 전체 속에서 논의될 필요가 있음을 암시한다. 이 연구는 의과 대학 교육과정의 다양성을 보완하는 데 유용한 기초자료가 될 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the study is to understanding the difficulties of medical students who have attended the middle and high school out of Korea. This study conducted a qualitative study by in-depth interviewing with five students who lived and attended middle and high school abroad and entered the Korean medical school through a overseas students admission track. This study reveals that they were experiencing academic and emotional difficulties. Because of long stay abroad, they have difficulty in reading and writing with Korean language, in which lectures are given. Language issue led to academic difficulties. They take Korean language is their personal problem and try to solve by themselves with little help from others. In addition, they wanted to feel a sense of belonging. They try to become a part of classmates in medical school or form a peer group among similar returning students in university. By doing so, they try to adapt to Korean university culture, which is quite different from foreign culture. They get most of cheers and support primarily from family. This study help understanding the difficulties faced by returning college students in medical schools and developing medical school curriculum to reflect increasing diversity of students in medical schools.
