STEAM 프로젝트 기반학습(PBL)의 학교현장 적용 경험 분석

국문 초록

최근 학교 현장에서 교사들의 주도로 학생들의 창의적 문제해결력을 향상시키기 위해 프로젝트 기반학습(Project-Based Learning)을 많이 활용하고 있다. 하지만 현장 교사들은 실제 프로젝트를 학교에서 진행할 때 여러 가지 어려움 겪고 있어, 학교현장에서 프로젝트 기반학습을 활성화하기 위해, 교사들을 지원할 수 있는 연구가 필요한 시점이다. 이에 미국의 학교 현장에서 적용하고 있는 프로젝트 기반학습 사례인 Odyssey of the Mind(OM) 및 Destination Imagination(DI) 프로그램에 참여한국내외 교사들의 경험에 대한 인터뷰와 온라인 주관식 설문을 데이터로 수집하였다. 데이터 분석 결과를 토대로 국내 일반 학교에서 NASA PBL 프로그램을 효율적으로 활용하기 위해 어떤 점을 고려해야 하는지에 대한 시사점을 찾을 수 있었다. 이를 토대로 (a) 학교 관계자의 NASA PBL적용에 대한 인식, (b) NASA PBL 방식의 수행 평가 점수산출 방법, (c) 시간 소비에 대한 학부모의 부정적 인식, (d) 신념을 가진열정적인 지도교사의 부재, (e) 우리나라 학교에 적용할 때의 어려움 등의 중심 의미를 확인할 수 있었다. 연구 결과를 토대로 창의 융합 형 인재 양성을 위해 국내 학교 현장 적용이 가능한 프로그램의 방향성과 적용 방법을 제안할 수 있었다

영문 초록

Recently more and more teachers apply project-based learning (PBL) in their class to enhance student’s creative problem solving skills. However, many teachers reported unsuccessful experiences of implementing PBL in their class. The purpose of the study was to examine teachers’ challenges when applying PBL in a class. We conducted interviews and administered an online survey to teachers who employed a NASA PBL approach and participated in Odyssey of the Mind and Destination Imagination programs. Using qualitative data analysis methodology we found teachers encountered five challenges implementing PBL in school. These challenges include (a) lack of school administrators’ understanding about NASA PBL, (b) lack of agreement on evaluation methods between parents and teachers, (c) parents’ negative perceptions on students’ time spending for PBL, (d) lack of skillful and passionate teachers for PBL, and (e) lack of school support for the implementation of PBL. Based on the research findings we suggested ways to implement PBL in school more effectively.
