사이버 대학교의 멘토링 경험에 대한 합의적 질적 연구

국문 초록

목적 본 연구의 목적은 사이버 대학교에서 시행되고 있는 멘토링 참여의 경험과 의미를 살펴봄으로써 멘토링의 중요성을 확인하고자 시행되었다. 방법 이를 위하여 A 사이버 대학교에서 멘토링 참여 경험이 있는 사람을 공개 모집하였고, 멘토와 멘티 총 10명을 연구 참여자로 선정하였다. 반구조화된 질문지와 개방형 질문을 통하여 참여자들의 인터뷰를 진행했으며 Hill과 동료들(1997)에 의해 개발된 합의적 질적 연구방법(CQR)을 사용하여 분석하였다. 세 명의 연구자들이 평정팀으로 구성되어 자유롭게 의견을 교환하면서 합의하는 과정을 반복하였고 이러한 과정을 통해 자료의 분석과 해석에서 객관성을 확보하려 노력하였다. 연구의 전체적 과정은 감수자의 감수 아래 시행되었다. 결과 사이버 대학교의 멘토링은 ‘참여동기’와 ‘참여경험’, ‘참여결과’ 및 ‘발전 방향’ 4개 영역으로 구분되었다. 첫째, 학업에서 도움이 필요하거나 과거 도움 받았던 경험이 멘토링 참여 동기였다. 둘째, 멘토링은 스스로에게도 도움이 되는 반면, 멘토링이 도움되지 않는 것처럼 느껴지기도 하여 긍정적, 부정적 경험을 모두 하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 멘토링에 참여함으로써 학업과 학교 활동의 확장 뿐 아니라 공부하는 방법 및 동료와의 인간적인 관계를 유지하며 학교 생활에 적응하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 멘토링의 효과성과 필요성을 드러내며 멘토링의 발전 방향을 제시하였다. 결론 본 연구를 통하여 사이버 대학교에 적응하고 학업을 지속하는데 멘토링이 효과적인 역할을 한다는 것을 경험적으로 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 멘토링은 일방적인 관계가 아니라 서로가 서로에게 도움이 되는 관계라는 것을 보여주었다. 그러므로 멘토링의 활성화를 위하여 적극적인 홍보와 지원이 필요하며, 일정한 구조를 가진 실질적인 체계로 시행되기를 제언하는 바이다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study was to examine the experience and meaning of mentoring participation in cyber universities and to confirm the importance of mentoring. Methods For this, this study openly recruited people with experiences of participating in mentoring in A cyber university, and then selected total ten mentors and mentees as research participants. After conducting interviews through semi-structured questionnaire and open-ended questions, the collected data was analyzed in the consensual qualitative research(CQR) method developed by Hill et al.,(1997). In the rating team, three researchers repeated the process of consenting by exchanging opinions, and through this process, they made efforts to secure objectivity in data analysis and interpretation. Results The mentoring of cyber university was classified into four areas such as ‘motive for participation’, ‘participatory experience’, ‘result of participation’, and ‘development direction’. First, the necessity to get help for study or experience of getting help in the past was the motive for participation. Second, even though mentoring was helpful to themselves, they also felt like mentoring was not helpful, so they had both positive and negative experiences. Third, they were adapting themselves to school life by not only expanding their learning and school activities, but also maintaining the method of studying and interpersonal relationships with peers. Lastly, this study presented the development direction of mentoring by revealing the effectiveness and necessity of mentoring. Conclusions This study verified that mentoring played effective roles in adapting to cyber university and continuing study. Also, mentoring was not a unilateral relationship, but a mutually-helpful relationship. Thus, this study suggests the necessity of active promotion and support, and the establishment of the substantial system with a certain structure for the vitalization of mentoring.
