자유학기제 실시에 따른 중학생의 민주시민역량과 학교행복감 영향에 관한 연구

국문 초록

자유학기제의 근본 취지는 지식 위주의 획일적 교육에서 벗어나서 학생들의 꿈과 개성을 구현하고자 하는 교육목표는 공교육의 문제점을 보완할 수 있는 교육과정으로 학교행복교육 실현을 위한 교육정책의 연장선으로 볼 수 있다. 하지만 현재의 자유학기제는 충분한 준비과정 없이 지난 정부와 현 정부의 강력한 정책 의지를 바탕으로 시행되었기 때문에 학력 저하의 우려와 교육인프라 부재 등의 한계를 드러내고 있는 상황이다. 본 연구에서는 자유학기제에서 지향하는 체험위주의 다양한 학습활동을 통한 공동체의식 강화에 있어서 민주시민역량의 중요성에 주목하고 민주시민역량과 학교행복감 간의 영향 관계에서 자유학기제의 조절효과를 살펴보았다. 본 연구의 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 변인들 간 상관분석결과 민주시민역량은 학교행복감에 .55(p<.001)의 정적 상관이 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 중학생이 지각하는 민주시민역량은 학교행복감에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 보여주는 결과이다. 둘째, 자유학기제 실시 여부의 집단 간 차이를 살펴본 결과 민주시민역량, 학교행복감 각각에 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 셋째, 민주시민역량이 학교행복감에 영향을 미치는 관계에서 자유학기제 실시에 따른 조절효과를 살펴본 결과 민주시민역량이 학교행복감을 31.68% 설명하며(R2=.317), 통계적으로 유의미한 결과(F=43.596,p<.001)를 도출하였다. 본 연구결과를 종합적으로 살펴볼 때, 자유학기제는 민주시민역량이 학교행복감에 미치는 영향 관계를 정적으로 강화하는 조절효과가 있음이 확인된 만큼 자유학기제 실시를 통해 형성된 민주시민역량의 수준이 높을수록 학교행복감을 높일 수 있음을 시사하고 있다. 이러한 연구결과가 자유학기제와 자유학년제로의 안정적 확산과 발전 방향을 탐색하는데 도움이 되길 바란다.

영문 초록

The fundamental goal of the free semester is to improve students dreams and individuality by deviating from knowledge-oriented monolithic education, and can be seen as an improvement to compensate for the problems of public education and as an extension of realizing school happiness education. However, since the free semester system was implemented based on the strong will of the past government and the current government without sufficient preparation, it reveals the limitations such as the possibility of academic decline and the lack of educational infrastructure. This study focused on the importance of democratic citizenship competency in strengthening community consciousness through various learning activities focused on experiential orientation aimed at the free semester system, and examined the relationship between democratic citizenship competence and school happiness. Looking at the results of this study comprehensively, it has been confirmed that the free semester system has a controlling effect of statically strengthening the relationship between democratic civic capabilities to school happiness, suggesting that the higher the level of democratic civic capabilities formed through the implementation of the free semester system, the higher the school happiness. We hope that these findings will help us explore the direction of stable spread and development to the free semester system and the free school year system.
