정신역동적 관점에서의 영성

국문 초록

이 연구는 정신역동적 관점에서 심리영적 발달의 과정을 조명해 보고자 하였다. 프로이트는 영적인 합일체험을 병리적인 퇴행현상으로 격하시켰다. 반면 심리학적으로 영성을 진지하게 다룬 최초의 심리학자인 융은 집단무의식의 원형과의 조우를 통한 누미노제의 체험을 개성화과정에서 필수적인 것으로 여겼다. 윌버는 자신의 전/초 오류 개념을 통해 융이 집단무의식의 비영적인 원형들을 무차별하게 영적인 것으로 혼동하고 있다고 비판했다. 후기 융학파인 워시번은 융의 개성화 모델을 발전시켜 정신역동적인 심리영적 발달 모델을 정교하려고 시도했다. 그의 나선형 통합모델은 자아와 역동적 바탕의 역동적 합일 과정을 그리고 있다. 자아는 원초적 억압을 통해 역동적 바탕으로부터 분리된 후 필멸할 수밖에 없는 자신의 정체성을 방어하기 위한 에고프로젝트를 감행한다. 그러나, 실존적 위기는 에고 프로젝트를 부질없는 것으로 만들고, 자아를 내면의 깊은 근원으로 귀환하도록 촉구한다. 초월을 향한 퇴행을 통해 자아는 자신의 주권을 역동적 바탕에 양도하고 비로소 진정한 존재감 속에 안도하게 된다. 자아의 끊임없는 속삭임을 멈추게 하는 침묵과 묵상과 명상은 자아를 근원적 존재와 분리시키고 있는 원초적 억압의 벽을 허무는 영적 수행법이 된다. 실존적 결핍에 시달리는 현대인들은 자기애적인 영적 추구를 통해 빈약한 자존감을 보상하려한다. 진정한 영성은 자아의 부질없는 추구를 멈추고 무위의 쉼을 허락함으로써 생겨난다.

영문 초록

This study attempted to shed light on the spiritual developmental process from a psycho-dynamic perspective. Freud downgraded a spiritual union experience to a pathological regressive phenomenon. However, Jung treated spirituality seriously and regarded a numinous experience from encountering archetypes in collective unconsciousness as an essential process of individuation. Wilber criticizes Jung for mixing spiritual archetypes and non-spiritual ones using a pre/trans fallacy. Washburn, one of the post-Jungian scholars, attempted to elaborate a psycho-spiritual developmental model by developing Jung s individuation model. His spiral to the integration model depicts a dynamic union process of the ego and the Dynamic Ground. The ego separates from the Dynamic Ground through a primal repression and then practices an ego project to defend its own mortal identity. However, existential crises defeat the ego project and urge the ego to return to its own deep inner origin. Through a regression in the service of transcendence, the ego surrenders its sovereignty to the Dynamic Ground and feels at ease and an authentic presence for the first time. Silence, contemplation, and meditation, which stop the ceaseless talking of the ego, become a spiritual practice to tear down the wall of primal repression separating the ego from the original being. Modern men suffering from existential deficiencies compensate for their poor self-esteem through a narcissistic spiritual search. Authentic spirituality will emerge from an inactive pause, thus stopping a useless urge of the ego.
