영화 <완득이>를 중심으로 본 다문화사회의 차별과 소통

국문 초록

본 연구는 차별에 초점을 맞춘 다문화영화가 아니라 소통과 대등한 관계 설정을 통해 따뜻한 다문화가정을 그려낸 〈완득이〉라는 영화를 분석대상으로 하고 있다. 그리고 이 영화의 주요 장면과 대사를 통해 다문화사회의 현실을 분석하고, 한국 사회와 어떻게 소통하는가를 분석했다. 그 결과 다문화영화 〈완득이〉는 어머니, 편지, 신발 등 다양한 소재를 통해 한국사회 속에서 소통하고 융합되는 모습을 그려내고 있었다. 특히 다문화사회에 접어들은 한국 현실에서 이주민을 불쌍하고 도와주어야 한다는 입장이 아닌, 독립적인 주체로 인식하고, 수평적인 대등한 관계로 설정하고 있었다. 미디어는 다른 문화에 대한 올바른 인식과 태도 정책형성에 긍정적 또는 부정적인 영향을 미치는 중요한 매체이다. 왜냐하면 미디어는 다른 문화를 알리고 교육하며 이주민들의 자기표현을 강화시켜주기도 한다. 반면 이주민을 범죄나 일탈된 행동하는 존재로 묘사해 부정적인 인식을 심어주기 때문이다. 따라서 우리나라가 다문화가족에 대한 부정적 인식을 극복하고 다문화에 대한 올바른 인식 교육을 위해 건전한 다문화영화의 확산이 필요하다. 이러한 다양한 미디어를 통해 다문화사회에서 발생되는 정치, 경제, 문화, 인권 문제에 대한 공론의 장을 마련하고, 소통을 통해 갈등보다는 사회통합을 모색해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes not a multicultural film that focuses on discrimination, but rather a warm multicultural family movie, Wanduk, which depicts communication and equality. Through this film’s main scenes and dialogue, we investigate the reality of multicultural society and analyze how it communicates with Korean society. Wan-duk shows people communicating and converging in Korean society through various objects or people-a mother, a letter, a pair of shoes. In particular, it shows the reality of Korean society becoming a multicultural society. This film concludes that migrants are not people to pity and help, but people with an independent existence who have a horizontal and equal relationship. The media are important in that they can have either a positive or a negative impact on cultural awareness and attitude policy formation about other cultures. The media can inform and educate other cultures, and can strengthen migrants’ self-expression. On the other hand, the media can also portray migrants as criminals or deviant behavioral actors, and can plant negative perceptions. Therefore, it is necessary to disseminate good multicultural films to overcome the negative perception of multicultural families in Korea, and to educate them properly about multiculturalism. Through various media, it is necessary to establish a forum for public opinion on the political, economic, cultural, and human rights problems that arise in a multicultural society, and to pursue social integration rather than conflict through communication.
