한국 대학의 일반자유선택 교양교육 비판

국문 초록

본 연구는 한국 대학의 일반자유선택 교양교육을 비판적으로 고찰함으로써 교양교육의 본래적 의미를 회복하고 교육적 정체성을 확보하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 먼저 20개 대학을 선정하여 일반자유선택 교양 현황을 조사하고 문제점을 도출하였다. 자료는 2018.10-2019.2에 수집되었고, 분석은 2019.2.-4.에 진행되었다. 대학들은 교양, 전공, 선택의 3원 교육과정 체제를 형성하고, 교양교육과정 내에 별도의 자유선택적 교양 영역을 편성하여, 최소 1개에서 최대 9개까지의 다양한 하위 영역을 구성 하고 있었다. 편성 과목은 최소 28과목에서 최대 347과목으로 편차가 심했으며, 편성 및 운영 방식은 대학에 따라 다양했다. 일반자유선택 교양 영역은 교과목의 적합성 부족, 교양교육의 정체성 훼손, 대학교육과정의 왜곡, 수강 시스템의 변질, 비교과 교육과정의 혼란, 교육과정 운영주체의 혼동 등의 문제점을 노정하면서 교양교육의 정상화와 내실화를 저해하는 핵심적 요인으로 작용하고 있었다. 문제점을 해소하기 위해 재구조화 방안을 모색하였다. 첫째, 특수목적성 자유선택적 교양 교과목의 적합성을 검증하여 적합하지 않는 과목들을 선별한다. 둘째, 교양교육과정내에 별도로 편성된 자유선택적 영역은 폐지한다. 셋째, 특수목적성 교육 내용은 비교과 교육과정으로 재편하는 것이 바람직하다. 넷째, 과도기적으로는 선택교육과정에 특수목적성 선택과목을 편성하는 방안을 고려할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study aims to restore the inherent meaning of the education of liberal arts and confirm its educational identity by critically examining how liberal arts are educated as general elective courses in Korean universities. 20 universities were selected to investigate the problems of elective courses in liberal arts education. The data were collected in 2018.10-2019.2 and the analysis was conducted in 2019.2.-2019.4. Universities have a triadic curriculum system - liberal arts, majors, and elective courses- and additional elective liberal arts are included in liberal arts which consist of a variety of sub courses from 1 to 9. The number of scheduled subjects varies greatly from 28 to 347 in maximum and the organization and management of courses differs depending on the university. These elective liberal arts showed several problems such as the lack of relevancy as curriculum subject, damage to the identity of education of liberal arts, distortion of academic curriculum of universities, deterioration of course registration system, confusion of extracurricular programs and administrating body of curriculum, which have played a key role in hindering the normalization and substantiality of education of liberal arts. Several plans for reconstruction came up in order to cope with these problems. First, the adequacy of elective liberal arts for special purposes must be verified to figure out which courses are unsuited. Second, the additional elective courses under the elective liberal arts must be eliminated. Third, it is desirable that the education contents for special purposes are rearranged as extracurricular courses. Fourth, elective courses for special purposes can be organized in elective curriculum in transitional forms.
