국문 초록

부모의 한국인과의 재혼이나 취업 등으로 인하여 본국에서 태어나 성장하다가 청소년기에 한국에 입국한 중도입국 청소년들은, 청소년기라는 커다란 변화와 함께 새로운 사회에서의 적응을 겪어야 하기에 더 많은 도전을 경험하게 되며, 일반적으로 제 2언어를 배우는데 있어서도 아동기에 비해 더 많은 어려움을 직면하게 된다. 이에 본 연구의 목적은 (1) 현재 중도입국 청소년을 위한 한국어 교육 프로그램과 정책의 실태를 파악하고 (2) 사회언어학적 관점으로 현재 사용되고 있는 한국어교육 프로그램과 교육환경이 중도입국 청소년들에게 한국어를 습득하고자 하는 동기를 촉구하는지 알아보고자 한다. 연구결과에 따르면, 현재 중도입국 청소년들을 위한 한국어 교육 프로그램은 제2언어학습을 위한 사회적 요인을 충분히 고려하고 있지 못하다. 본 연구결과는 중도입국 청소년들의 한국어 교육을 위해서는 중도입국 청소년들과 한국어 공동체사이의 사회적 통합 요소를 고려한 정책과 한국어를 사회적으로 의미 있는 상황에서 습득할 수 있게 하는 프로그램의 필요성을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Adolescent immigrants who were born in a foreign country and immigrated to Korea during their adolescence due to their parents’ remarriage to a Korean spouse or employment in Korea face challenges because they go through adolescence as they adjust into a new society, and often learning Korean as a second language becomes more difficult to these adolescent learners. This paper first explores the nature of current Korean education programs and policy for adolescent immigrant learners, and second, based on sociolinguistic perspectives, examine whether the current Korean education programs and learning environments encourage adolescent immigrant learners’ motivation to learn Korean. The findings show that the Korean language program for adolescent immigrant learners do not consider enough the importance of social aspect of second language learning. The findings indicate that educational policy for Korean language education for adolescent immigrant learners must consider the importance of social integration and create programs that they can learn Korean in an socially meaningful situations.
