도서관 메이커 활동(Maker Activity)을 통한 메이커 정신

국문 초록

메이커 활동은 핸즈 언(hand-on) 활동이 중심이 되지만, 개인적인 만족감과 기술습득을 넘어서 협력, 공유, 나눔과 사회적 실천이라는 가치, 곧 메이커 정신(Maker Mindsets)에 초점을 두고 있다. 또한 메이커 활동은 지역공동체를 중심으로 자율적인 참여로 진행되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 도서관이라는 지역공동체 기관을 중심으로 메이커 할동 프로그램을 개발, 적용하였다. 이후 메이커 활동을 통한 메이커 정신의 함양에 초점을 두었으며, 특히 프로그램의 결과로서 메이커들 간에 경험하는 사회적 관계성을 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2016년 11월 19일부터 12월 24일까지 초등학생 3학년 이상부터 고등학생 2학년의 남녀학생 19명을 대상으로 매주 1회(3시간)씩 5차례 메이커 활동 프로그램을 진행하였다. 또한 관찰일지, 성찰일지, 면담 내용을 중심으로 코딩분석을 하였다. 그 결과, 본 프로그램에 참여했던 메이커들은 자율적, 자기주도적 활동을 근간으로 하여, 다른 메이커들간의 협동, 나눔과 공유를 경험하였으며, 나아가 지역사회 일원으로서 지역사회에 참여하고 기여하고자 하는 태도를 갖게 되었음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해, 도서관은 지역 공동체를 중심으로 다양한 문화와 배경의 사람들이 모여 메이커 활동을 펼칠 수 있는 메이커스페이스로서의 가능성을 지니고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

Maker activity goes beyond simple hands-on activity for individual satisfaction or specific skill acquisition, focusing on Maker Mindsets including collaboration, sharing, and social participation. This study, in this context, aimed to design and implement a Maker activity program in a library and then examine social relationships among the makers in the program in the process of the making activity, since the Maker activity emphasizes fostering maker mindsets. Especially, a library has been selected as a makerspace in this study, because most of the Maker activities have happened centering around local community by autonomous participation of the makers in the area. The Maker activity program in this study has been conducted to 19 students of 3rd grade to 11th grade for 5 weeks (three hours per week) from November 19th to December 24th in 2016. And this study conduct a coding-analysis with the results from qualitative data of reflective journals and interviews of the makers and observation notes of the instructors as well. The results presented the self-directed and autonomous makers could experience collaboration and sharing among other makers participated in the program, showing their interest in the community participation as a member of the local community. In addition, this study showed that library has confirmed its potential as a makerspace located in local community of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
