국문 초록

본 연구는 존 버닝햄의 그림책 속에 나타난 아이상을 탐구함으로써 아이의 세계 및 존재에 대한 이해 도모 및 유아교육의 나아갈 방향을 모색하고자 하였다. 이러한 연구목적을 위해 버닝햄의 그림책 중 아이가 주인공이면서 아이의 세계를 잘 반영한 그림책 7권을 선정하였고, 그림책의 글과 그림에 대한 해석학적 순환과정을 실시하여 주제를 도출하였다. 연구결과는 자유로운 세계·소통의 관계·야생적인 배움을 욕망하는 아이, 규칙·편견·관계 단절에 부딪치는 아이, 판타지·재치·순응으로 동화되는 아이로 주제화되었다. 아이에게 있어 욕망 실현의 중요성과 각각의 지평이 부딪칠 때 자신의 방식으로 동화되어 가는 모습에서 아이의 세계와 존재를 이해할 수 있었다. 그래서 미래 시대에 유아교육의 나아갈 방향은 판타지를 중요시 여기는 아이의 세계와 자신과 타자와 상황을 이해하며 스스로 배움을 찾아가는 아이의 존재를 인정하며 자유로운 세계와 기다림의 교육 실현으로 나아가야 할 것을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to promote the understanding of children s world and existence by exploring children’s images in John Burningham’s Picturebooks. For the purpose of this study, we selected total seven books in the picture books of Burningham that a child is the protagonist and reflect well the child s world. For the analysis, the hermeneutical circulation process of the writing and the picture of the picture book was carried out and the theme was derived. The results of this study are classified under themes, as followings: “A child who desires”. 1) A child desires a free world, 2) A child desires a relationship of communication, 3) A child desires wild learning. “A child who encounters”. 1) A child who encounters a rule, 2) A child who encounter prejudice, 3) A child who is confronted with disconnection. “A child who assimilates”. 1) A child who is assimilated by fantasy, 2) A child who is assimilated with wit, 3) A child assimilated by adaptation. Through this study, it is aimed to provide an opportunity to understand how children are assimilated in their own way when the importance of realizing desires of children and horizon are encountered, and to suggest an occasion to guide the direction of early childhood education in an unpredictable future.
