이메일 장르 쓰기를 활용한 학문 목적 쓰기 수업 사례 연구

국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 요청 이메일의 장르 관습을 밝히고, 텍스트 외적 관습과 내적 관습을 중심으로 유학생들의 이메일 쓰기 양상을 살펴보고자 한다. 방법 이를 위하여 이메일의 장르 쓰기 교육 모형을 설계하여 두 학기의 수업에 연속적으로 적용하였다. 수업 직후 1차 과제로 교수님께 요청하는 이메일 쓰기를 수행하고, 5주가 경과한 후에는 중간고사에서 유사한 주제로 2차 과제를 수행하도록 하여 수업의 결과를 분석하였다. 분석 기준은 텍스트 외적인 상황 맥락을 적절하게 고려할 수 있는지와 텍스트 자체에 기반한 글의 구조와 내용, 언어 사용 등 텍스트 내적인 관습을 함께 살펴보았다. 결과 수업의 결과 학습자들은 요청 이메일의 구조를 빠트리지 않고 각 구조에 따른 내용도 적절하게 작성하는 모습을 보였지만 요청 이메일의 각 전개 단계에서 사용되는 관습적인 언어 형식에는 오류가 많이 나타났다. 특히 요청하기 기능을 글로써 수행할 때 공손성을 나타내기 위해 사용되는 특정한 문형들과 높임법 사용에 어려움을 보였다. 결론 학습자들은 이메일 장르 쓰기 교육을 통해 이메일의 목적과 수신자와의 관계에 대해 고려하고 사회언어학적인 관습과 규범을 따르는 것의 중요성을 인식할 수 있게 되었다. 또한 장르와 매우 밀접하게 관련된 문법 항목들은 개별적으로 제시할 것이 아니라 장르와 연계하여 제시하는 것이 효과적임을 알 수 있었다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purposes of this study were to identify the genre conventions of request e-mails and to analyze the international students’ e-mails based on extra-text conventions and intra-text conventions. Methods We designed a genre-based writing education model of e-mail and applied it to the class. Right after the class, the first task was given to the students to write an requesting e-mail and after 5 weeks, the second task was conducted on a similar topic in the midterm exam to analyze the results of the class. Results Students made few errors in writing appropriate content following the formal structure of the request email. However, there were many sociolinguistic errors in the customary language forms used at each stage of structure. In particular, when performing the function of requesting, it was difficult to use specific sentence patterns and honorifics used to show politeness. Conclusions Through email genre writing education, learners were able to recognize the importance of considering the purpose of email and the relationship with the recipient, and following sociolinguistic conventions and norms. In addition, it was found that it is effective to present grammatical items that are very closely related to the genre, not individually, but in connection with the genre.
