한국의 姓貫制와 本貫 ‘慶州’ 姓氏

국문 초록

이 글에서는 한국의 성씨들 중에서, 특히 신라의 왕경이었던 경주를 본관으로 표기하는 성씨들에 대하여 살펴보았다. 먼저 한국 성씨와 본관의 특징을 언급하고, 이어서 본관을 경주로 하는 성씨들에 대해 검토하였다. 본관을 경주로 하는 성씨의 수는 시대에 따라 달랐다. 전통시대에는 세종실록지리지와 신증동국여지승람에 의하면, 慶州府 本府의 성씨로는 신라 宗姓 三姓 및 六部姓과 回鶻系 偰氏가 있었다. 이 성씨의 후예들이 늘어나 인구수가 많아지고, 또 일부가 주거지를 옮겨 생활하면서, 서로간에 혈족의 계통을 구분하고 先代와 出自를 분명하게 할 필요에서 새로운 성을 칭하고 다른 지역명을 본관을 사용하였다. 그리하여 성씨간에 혈통의 근원과 출자는 동일 하다고 하면서도 성과 본관을 달리하는 성씨가 많아졌다. 더구나 조선 후기에는 大姓名門 중심으로 성과 본관을 변경하는 추세가 있었는데, 여러 群小 성씨들은 신라 또는 경주와 연계성이 있는 본관과 성을 선택하였다. 이와 같은 경향은 전통시대 뿐만 아니라 근현대에도 여전하여, 많은 한국인들은 성과 본관을 달리하면서도 그 출자와 연원은 신라 종성과 6부 의 성에서 유래하였고 또 연관성이 있는 것으로 이야기한다. 즉 ‘新羅出自說’ 을 자처하며 우월감과 자긍심을 갖는 가문과 사람들이 많다. 이러한 의식은 한말에 신분제가 폐지되고, 더구나 2000년대에 이르러 법적으로 성과 본관의 개정과 창설이 가능해짐에, 이에 따라 옛 신라의 왕경이라는 역사문화적 특별성을 지닌 경주를 본관으로 표기하는 많은 성씨가 생겨나고 있다. 그리하여 오늘날 본관을 경주로 표기하는 성씨의 수는 물론 여기에 따른 총가구수와 인구수가 폭증하는 현상을 보이고 있다.

영문 초록

The number of family name with the origin place ‘Gyeongju’ varies from age to age. In the traditional period, There were three royal family names and six family names of Silla in the center of Gyeongju city, according to the records of Sejongsillok jiriji and Shinjeungdongguk- yeojiseungram. The number of descendants of this family name has increased. Some of them moved their residences. And they needed to distinguish the lineage of blood relatives from each other and clarify their ancestors and histories. For this reason, it referred to a new family name and used a different new origin place. As a result, it is said that the source and investment of the lineage are the same, but not only the origin place but also the family name are often different. Moreover, in the late Joseon Dynasty, many small families changed to the name and origin place of large and famous families. As one of them, they chose one that was connected to Silla or Gyeongju. On the other hand, as in the past, many Koreans today say, as if the beginning and history originated from and are related to the Silla king s family or the heads of six villages. This consciousness continues. At the end of the Joseon Dynasty, the status system was abolished. and in the 2000s, it was possible to legally create or change family names and origins. Under these conditions, many new family names are emerging based on Gyeongju as the royal palace of Silla. As a result, today, the number of family names based in Gyeongju increases, In addition, the total number of household and people connected to this is showing an explosive increase.
