논증 텍스트 쓰기 교육에서 소거 전략이 학부 유학생의 글쓰기 능력 및 인지부하에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 ‘소거 전략(fading strategy) 활용이 학문 목적 한국어 학습자의 쓰기 능력 및 인지 부하에 유의미한 영향을 줄 것이라 판단하여 소거 전략 사용 여부에 따른 쓰기 영역의 학습 효과를 살펴보는 데에 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서는 학부 유학생 60명을 실험 및 통제 집단으로 나누어 4차시 동안 논증 텍스트 쓰기에서 소거 전략의 효과를 살펴보았다. 실험 집단의 경우, 4차시에 걸쳐 논증 프롬프트를 소거의 형태로 제시하였으며, 통제 집단의 경우, 논증 프롬프트를 지속적으로 제공하였 다. 처치의 효과는 글쓰기 능력, 논증의 질, 인지 부하를 통하여 확인하였다. 연구 결과 쓰기 능력의 모든 하위 영역에서 유의한 차이를 보였고, 논증의 질 차이 또한 유의하였다. 특히 ‘근거+보증’에서 제한적으로 유의한 차이를, 후원에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 발견하였다. 인지부하의 경우 세 하위영역 중 외재적 인지부하에서 차이가 유의했음을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 쓰기 교수-학습 및 과제 개발 시 점진적으로 스캐폴딩을 소거하는 전략을 활용하는 것이 무엇보다 중요할 것이라 판단한다.

영문 초록

The aim of the current study is to examine the effect of fading strategy on writing skills and cognitive load among Korean learners for academic purposes. In this study, sixty L2 learners in undergraduate levels are randomly assigned experimental and controlled group (either with fading strategy or without), and participated in argumentation writing courses during 4 courses. In experimental group, learners are received argumentative scaffolding based on the backward fading mechanism. On the other hands, learners in controlled group are continuously provided with the same types of argumentative scaffolding during the whole courses. In order to examine the fading treatment, this study measures learners’ writing ability and quality of argumentation through content analysis of their argumentation tasks, and cognitive load. The result revealed significant differences in all subcomponents of writing skills. For quality of argumentation, there were limited significant differences in grounds and warrant, along with significant differences in backing. Cognitive load exhibited significant differences only in extraneous cognitive load. These results imply the importance of applying fading strategy to the development of instructional models and the designing of learning tasks in writing courses.
